Oh look.

Something that's actually vaguely useful to the average person.

If this is what Juicero was I wouldn't be upset in the slightest.

Do you think there was a point where they knew the design had gotten too far away from the initial promise but it was too late to do anything about it? Or was there actually someone who convinced them this would be a profitable product?

Store bought juice tends to be over sugared. Juice made like this tends to be fine. Still more sugar than water, but you're comparing to literally WATER.

Of course, even the store juices are ridiculously healthy compared to soda, which the majority of the country drinks on a regular basis.

when I initially read the story I figured the bags contained like a puree or frozen paste that needed to be pressed out but that hand-squeezing could also do the job

then I read more and realized they're literally just sending you the fucking juice

It is amazing.

It's more amazing than the product is, actually.

The thing is.

The fucking thing is.

Selling large bags of juice like that would be viable marketing strategy.

But they're not advertising it like that, they're selling us a juicer that squeezes already juiced juice.

It's bonkers.

EDIT:

Let me clarify because I'm emotional and things aren't making sense.

The idea of having healthy juice shipped to your house is already something worth selling for those that are too busy to make drinks like these. It's honestly a neat thing, albeit one I wouldn't partake in (mostly because I could just go down to the store and buy capri sun if I wanted that - and now I'm tempted to)

But it's the fucking pretentious nonsense with the "juicer" that doesn't actually juice that bothers me. Why? And why does it need to be fucking connected to the wi fi? Why is this yet another fucking product that requires a smart phone for processes that are completely unrelated to smart phones? What the actual fuck.

I'm upset.

A person close to the company said Juicero is aware the packs can be squeezed by hand but that most people would prefer to use the machine because the process is more consistent and less messy. The device also reads a QR code printed on the back of each produce pack and checks the source against an online database to ensure the contents haven’t expired or been recalled, the person said. The expiration date is also printed on the pack.

Guys wait, the QR code definitely makes it worth $400. I am always struggling to read the expiration dates on my food items.

Juice, even juice you've made yourself, is inherently less healthy than the fruits and vegetables it came from. Sure, you might get a smattering of vitamins, but none of the fiber. Not only is that fiber good for digestion, it prevents you from overeating. Since you'll never get full on juice, you're going to eat the same amount of solid food on top of the calories you already drank. Sugar is still sugar, whether it came from cane, corn, starch or apples. Your body breaks it all down to glucose anyways.

Is juice better than soda? Technically, sure. But it's not something you should be in the habit of drinking. It's practically empty calories

In that video, I saw the following text when the juice press was being set up using a phone:

The Press needs to be connected to Wi-Fi to make juice. Let's get it connected.

I think it's rather stupid that a juice press needs to be connected to Wi-Fi before it can be used.

The Juisir thing looks better, but I just looked up the kickstarter and apparently it'll have a retail price of $799. I don't understand why it's so expensive to make a machine that squeezes stuff.

I feel this is maybe a little too harsh. It's not just juice in the bags, but a lot of pulp as well.

The machine is actually doing a little bit of pressing. It's not just dispensing pre-made juice

Every time I think about drinking juices in addition to my normal water/tea, I remember this. Would much rather have the source fruits anyway. Give me a bowl of mixed berries and that's a delicious snack/dessert.

That wasn't the point I was trying to make. The point is that the machine is completely, 100% unnecessary for what the product is.

Everything I saw about the hand-squeezed juice is that it is exactly the same as the juice produced by using the press.

Also, if you want to combat obesity, remember that if people aren't able to reliably afford healthy food (especially the sort that's easily prepared or pre-prepared), they aren't going to be able to afford a fucking $400 presser with a god damn subscription fee for your overpriced juice.
