I feel like in the time we've been arguing about draft formats and availability we could've been halfway through a "you have 24 hours but please don't take that long" FWA-style draft >_> (assuming player cooperation which is perhaps a traditionally poor idea with mercs)

Less viable and more 'a total gimme'. The list isn't meant to cover absolutely every possibility, it's more of a safety measure in case you can't make the draft or have to leave early. Being present is meant to be a benefit in the draft, since it allows you to adapt your picks. I think a list of twelve mercs for 6 slots is actually generally gonna be way more than enough unless you're building a cookie-cutter 'grab generic OP' teamcomp (in which case, well, it kinda helps to have a more specific gameplan in mind). Keep in mind that you can edit your list anytime even while the draft is going (in case you gotta leave because of sleep or commitments halfway, for example).

hmm? It's just a list in order. To use a kinda dumb example, you can mail in something like...

1) Sephiroth
2) CATS (PS)
3) Alucard
4) Ryu Hayabusa
5) Amy Rose
6) Sonic the Hedgehog
7) Knuckles the Echidna
8) Liquid Snake
9) Brock Lesnar
10) Claire Redfield
11) Doomguy
12) Raiden

And we'd go down the list picking whatever's closest to the top. Just a priority list p much. I think so long as you spend two slots grabbing the strongest team cores you think will be available by the time your spot rolls around, the list works well.

I just have a lot of mercs where my interest in them is contingent upon getting another merc. Which would be far from guaranteed with 6 rounds of drafting going by. Like say I want Richter Belmont, and am interested in Chun Li if I get him to combo abilities, and have 0 interest in either one otherwise.

That kinda stuff

Lowest Unique Bidder is brutal, ngl. I don't think you could go higher than fifth here unless someone else changed their minds. It's a harsh predictive game.

I'm in the same boat as Lopen here. The way I see it, there's literally no reason not to try and draft a totally synergistic squad in this format, so I have several different routes I can possibly go depending on which initial lynchpin merc(s) I get, and the list of target mercs populating those lists are very different from each other. Trying to come up with a general list of 12 to cover 6 mercs is impossible.

Needless to say I won't be sending in a list and will try and be there on Friday night.

yeah I'm hoping to make it for whatever night but I will be bummed if I have to resort to a list, especially a list that probably won't be long enough to cover all the rounds. I'd rather go for a gimmicky, synergy-y team than a generically strong one! (See also: Mercs 1, Mercs 4) And ya can't do that six list picks at a time.

Agreed on the synergy (though I think there's some picks that are very very safe to draft - 7s for example), though I'd like to ask: is the primary issue with the list of 12 the lack of conditionality? Or are there any other problems with it?

Like in fantasy sports you can sorta guess at how likely it is you're going to get your first round pick pretty well, and sorta guess at what's gonna be on the board come round 2, etc etc. This one? Not so much.

Of course I imagine if you give us an inch of conditionals we'll take a mile and then it'll be a headache for you. Would help a lot if you're dead set on the two-night thing though I think?

You'd still get 12 picks tho). Assume for now there may not be any, but I'll let you guys know before friday rolls around.

This is a message board game. If you rank games on a spectrum from a real-time fps to PBEM I will always lean toward this being much closer to PBEM in all respects.

I think conditionals should be straight unlimited as long as they're on one line. Then at least if you're smart enough you're never getting a pick you don't want.

Don't see any issue with this honestly. Fairly easy to parse by looking at the drafts taken off the board.

Kanz, the kind of control you're attempting simply is... it's not possible. If there is one thing the history of board 8 has taught us it's that mercs will not be contained. It expands to new boards and crashes through rules, painfully, maybe even dangerously, but mercs, uh... finds a way.
