I've looked into child molesters a fair bit and much like rape can be less about sex and more about power/control/etc, there are child molesters of opportunity and then those who want to push the boundaries. Harming kids is like the most taboo and frowned upon thing in the world. We vilify it to the point that we don't even want to understand it in a better attempt to stop or control it. You gotta think these immensely powerful people are drawn to that as some kind of final frontier of their influence and control, in addition to the perversion and other aspects that drive people to that.
