That's a nice start. Do that, get some hobbies, and then a job. From there you can maybe meet some friends at work. One thing though: you say you want to be rich. That's not happening if you don't go for college. I know you say the student life isn't for you but it isn't "for" anybody. It's something that you work at so that you can have a better life. It's not going to get any better until you do something about it, and going back to school would be a great way to dive back in to society. Plus, you're guaranteed to get some friends at school, so while the school part would suck, the benefits are too big for you to just blow off because you don't want to go. If you can't afford college, try just going back to high school or a community college. Good jobs come from good education.

I am 21 as well. I also never had a girlfriend and have no friends right now either. It does feel scary when you know your best years are flying away..

But the past year I have slowly been gaining self-esteem. I stopped eating junk food and am started working out this past month.

I also returned to college this year and developed two crushes... which is where my motivation is coming from to hopefully at least befriend them... Also have played the Persona series and that type of life is what I am striving for so badly...

You gotta start somewhere, man. You can take all the advice on this board and it means nothing til YOU apply it.

Not trying to sound harsh. Just being realistic. We've all been there. Everyone is here for you. But you gotta take a step. If you aren't feeling motivated, then your goal is to GET MOTIVATED, lol.

If you fall, you get back up. Life doesn't end til you're dead. You got time

I think the best course of actions is to work on your self esteem before working on achieving anything else if that makes any sense....if you lack self esteem..than you would lack the motivation to do things. Sometimes you have to work on your self image before you're able to actually put yourself out there.


Try dressing nice and getting a haircut or whatever you need and take a walk downtown or a mall or something. If you are dressed nice and looking nice...it would drastically help improve your mood.

Procrastinating and choosing to leech off your mom instead of taking a first step (despite the overwhelming amount of advice) and choosing to go the loser route with "muh muh im such a failure feel bad for me" won't solve shit. I'm in much the same position. Ultimately, sooner or later, you have to reach a point where you just stop bitching about how unfair everything is (because life just sucks and things aren't going to magically bend to your will - even if you are right) and do something to change your life.

If you're anything like me, what you need most is to be moving. That requires physical exertion and a healthy diet. Lying around shut up inside all of the time is extremely detrimental to your health, and you just feel better when you're doing something. So quit making excuses and just make the steps necessary to move out. It's daunting, but it's for the best.

And if you're really serious, you're better off talking to real life people instead of an internet forum.

Yeah, it really is subjective. And in my case, no. I really wasn't going to college because I was working towards something bigger. I went because that's what everyone expected me to do - since everyone is told from infancy that if they don't go to college and get good grades then they will be a failure and a loser.

And I hated it. I won't go into why, but as it turns out, college isn't even the magic cure all that we were told anyway. And no matter what dumbasses may say, the system isn't even remotely efficient - you waste years of your life in school for painfully little return.

You don't "have to" go to college.

THIS. College is definitely a spring board to higher pay and opportunities, but if you don't go to the right school or get the right degree, you are stuck with tens upon thousands in debt.

Everybody likewise when I was young would say "just go right away after high school". "Start your generals". I'm sorry, but I'm not throwing away time and money unless I know there's something specific I wanna get out of it. You'd have to major in something anyway.

Trade schools are an alternative if you wanna build a certain skill set without an ass ton of debt. Honestly, it depends on what you want. But college isn't a cakewalk. If you go into that without a purpose, you're gonna burn out and waste a ton of money. But if you told me you wanted to be something like a doctor or physicist or something, if say go for it. But I certainly wouldn't recommend going "just because it's college"
