Heads up. My rl friend Jaded_Eye (I think that's the user name, haven't seen him post yet) wants to play. He's intelligent and he's read some of my games. I'll vouch for him. Additionally, we have a gentleman's agreement to not discuss mafia outside the game until it ends (this includes when we're both dead unless host clears it in case of resurrection roles... ugh I hate even writing that). He'll post in here sometime tonight I think. He might still have limited posts (like 50 some odd posts or something like that).

I think a comment, any comment on political bullshit that isn't just gentle joking (Like using a #MAGA tag ironically for an anime mafia where it stands for Make Anime Great Again or whatever) is grounds for a modkill. It doesn't matter who the fuck started it. The only correct response is to shut up, PM the host and let them execute the shitter who broke that rule. Surely we can all agree to studiously refuse to take the bait and just wait for the offending party to get modkilled?

My issues here have nothing to do with politics. Corrik and I have drastically different political views and I fucking love the guy.

But anytime I suspect Ulti - like last game for example - he's going to respond by calling me a liberal crybaby who is closed minded and only suspects him because of this - like he did last game for example. What the fuck am I supposed to do then? It makes the game unfun and I want nothing to do with it.

And as vi can attest, I did not message them as a power play. I didn't WANT to make all this public because it isn't worth it, but I don't want to be slandered so oh well. my message was 'i will not enjoy the game with Ulti in it, I don't expect you to cut him for me so just cut me if you include him'. That's all. It's for my own sanity.

My entire team knows I didn't mean it. Just needed to go to the whip hand with our boy IGCD is all! My lynch was not supposed to happen until day 2 =p

That was legitimately the best team-based scum team I've ever been on, and it was a blast from start to finish. We weren't all legend players but we had the best possible chemistry.

Does not matter if you meant it or not. It should never ever happen.

Politics isn't the problem. Ulti being a bad person who has deluded himself into thinking he's a better man and somehow that other people are the problem is the problem. He has a massive ego with zero self-reflection, zero ability to recognize when he's at fault, and in a personal game like mafia, those negative attributes are so front and center that the game is just not fun at all to play when he posts.

gravy, you're doing the right thing imo. Exclusion is dumb. Not playing because of Ulti is a personal decision that people can make and should have no bearing on the game.

I think the problem generally is that people want their games to be successful and so modkilling is avoided beyond reasonable amounts. Plus I think people tend to take things like that personally and so others don't want to offend others when it's "just a game".

I've fallen prey to getting wrapped up in the shit being said during a game several times, when really the mantra should just be, everyone here is playing their role and I shouldn't take any of this to heart.

That said, if people just modkilled offenders it'd be over before it's even begun in most cases.

Can't speak about the cases in question because I didn't see and nor do I care, but those are my general thoughts on the matter in case anyone finds them helpful.

Ulti is a Class A Jackass, but he's not even in the same league as the Ulti I once knew. Present Day Ulti makes a deliberate effort to acknowledge that others think differently than him, and when he errs in public, he apologizes in public.

He's still a Class A Jackass, though. But, still.

Take this with a grain of salt, since my b8 familiarity is limited strictly to mafia and nothing else. But...maybe there's something to be said for that?

I was not informed about that because I was too busy working on the end of day chaos. Not a single scummate of Ulti (IGCD/Puns/dowolf/pjbasis) thought it relevant to let me know what was going on. I did not even know of that until post game. I don't really care and it did not disrupt the flow of my game unlike his rant after he got lynched in Xenoblade (I postgame modkilled him there, but he still acts like he won that game)

As for the MI thing, I don't care for his reasons. I wanted him in cause he is a fun user and one who I enjoy watching play mafia (I think his first game was mine! Or am I mistaken?) so I tried to broke a compromise (I asked MI if I had permission to try to ask Ulti to tone it down privately, and I didn't ask for his name). The main reason being is if I cut either one a bunch of users would also be cut (You may know a few I would have cut) and someone will go "but why is MI cut? Or why is Ulti cut" and the reasons would have been extremely obvious. I felt like it went against the general direction and vision that I had planned for Board 8 mafia. So I worked to let both in. Fine and Dandy. Ulti makes a fake rant post talking about the compromise I tried to make with him, and that upset me. Not only did he talk about what I had done privately, but it made MI upset for that night. I talked to MI a little bit and decided to just let the situation resolve itself after MI took a little break. Thankfully it did in game.

I apologize to MI and Ulti for causing some grief, and everyone else for possible misunderstandings.

Whatever. If you guys don't want to play with him, I won't stop you. It's your decision. But I have to prove I'm the best board 8 mafia player so I gotta be in this game.
