So uh..just saw this for the first time a few days ago
Now, this movie isn't really discussed often, it isn't controversial or super relevant nowadays or anything, and yet..I remember hearing a few times how this is one of the best movies ever made
I also saw this very high on IMDB list of top 250 movies when someone made a topic here about that list, and I have seen like 4-5 people mentioning it in the "10/10 movies" topic.
So I decided to go ahead and watch this

Now look, I know that you are probably thinking "it's a typical Nanis don't like something topic" and you would be right.
But this time I am willing to admit that I am in the wrong here - so many people loved this movie to death, so I guess it's me that was missing something.
What made this movie stand out? to me it looked like a typical "serial murder mystery" movie which wasn't even better than Se7en (and Se7en wasn't amazing either)
It wasn't scary, and besides that amazing acting of Anthony Hopkins (which was as good if not better than his role in Westworld) the characters didn't stand out.
The "villain" of the movie didn't have a long time to shine, he/she went as fast as it appeared.

I dunno, I just have no idea what I missed. Maybe it's becase it came out in 1991 and it's unfair to judge it in today standards? maybe I needed to see Manhunter before? I really don't know

This is almost certainly the crux of it.

I still think its a very solid movie, but I first saw it when movies were generally worse.

The main mindblower of this topic is that Nanis didn't think Se7en was great... Silence of the Lambs has inspired countless films both in style and substance, so to judge it now after watching the films it inspired is I guess, the movie equivalent of "you had to be there".

But the acting is still great and there's still a few stand out moments that rise above in my opinion.
