The Switch has practically no games yet, a couple to look forward to, and a myriad of technical problems, while the U has a very respectable set of exclusives and a gimmick (controller monitor) that's actually really useful. The U even has Zelda, and it doesn't run too badly at all. The Switch runs it worse docked than undocked.

That's not really what I've been hearing, but yes, it is better marketed. Although it still sort of boggles my mind that the more casual customers can't research a bare minimum of what a console is.

I think it's easy to say the Switch is more likely to be competitive in the market than the Wii U was already, even if the wii u was hampered by a terrible marketing campaign

Well, my friend (and possibly another friend) did express that she didn't know it wasn't a peripheral, but she hasn't owned a console since the N64 or something so she probably wouldn't have bought one anyway.

What? Switch is basically what the Wii U should have been. You can't take the Wii U gamepad anywhere.

You're talking about comparing consoles. The only thing I see the Wii U winning there is being backwards compatible. Switch is a better console.

Game library is a totally different thing.

The Switch runs it worse docked because it's 900p. When undocked, it's 720p which is the same as the Wii U version except it looks and runs better. The Switch version is easily better, although the Wii U version is solid. For those who didn't buy a Wii U though, that version may as well not exist.

Anyway, the Switch at least has a respectable lineup shortly after launch. The Wii U had a lot of games at launch and then nothing for 8 months.

I like the Wii U, but it didn't catch on. The Switch at least is delivering on the promise of the Wii U.

The Switch already has more RPGs announced for it than the Wii U received in its entire life. Automatically better in my eyes.

Nintendo aimed it squarely at casuals with an undesirable gimmick and poor messaging. And even if a casual consumer is going to invest time trying to be compelled by a console, the Wii U isn't going to stand up well to any real scrutiny.

I get the impression that you think the Wii U library is undervalued and overlooked, and sure, there are games I've enjoyed on it. But it's a terrible piece of hardware/system software along with bad marketing and business.

The Wii U is a great piece of hardware. But Nintendo couldn't get across what it was or who it was for, it was too expensive, and it was immediately undercut by the release of the PS4 a year later. I think Nintendo was not expecting new systems that soon.

Of course it is not free of fault at all. It launched with issues with the OS and took 8 months to get games. Then when it had, people had made their minds up already.

Blaster Master Zero! Also you could count Fast RMX and Specter of Torment which is timed. That's 6 which I believe is as many as the PS4 got in its first 13 months on sale.

I wish Nintendo made the switch like 100 more.
But added some (even low end) graphics card to the docked mode. Its silly that docked mode has the same hardware but tries to do more and stuggles with it.

You probably can't switch modes on the fly with a hardware change like that. I think you'd have to reboot it or at least any program using it.

Of course I'm not an expert on that sort of thing so I'm not 100% on that.

That's not me necessarily arguing against a docked graphics card, btw. It just seemed to be a priority for them for whatever reason.

My assumption from the initial trailers was that the dock would give the Switch extra processing power, but of course that didn't happen. I don't know enough about technology to know how feasible that is.

It's definitely feasible in that you'd just be using a dock to simulate/simplify what you do to a PC when you add a graphics card or RAM. I just don't think you could do so without a reboot.
