I actually liked the plague stuff and how it explained a bunch of character motivations. Geist becomes pretty neat with it in particular.

I did not like Providence, or the plot surrounding the final battle. BD screwed this up too: replacing villains you care about with generic world-eaters at the end makes for an unsatisfying finish. And the "serious" fourth-wall breaking just fell flat to me entirely.

Yeah Geist was the most improved, but...I guess the way it's just told to us as almost an infodump like way just made it not really effective for me.

True about the last part, the least they could do was involve the asterisk holders more, it could've been like a nice epic brawl as well, but...yeah, the final battles weren't really effective.

Not in order:
1. Ninja
Dual wield and the ASPD are really nice for more damage, Utsusemi is hella useful as is Kairai (to make them hit tanks or counter-ready characters). IIRC Frenetic Fighting and SPD+20% is also from them? Just really nifty to use.

2. Patissier
The item support skills were crazy good. I love the status afflicting cakes, especially since they don't use MP. Ghostly Ganache and Lethal Layer Cake were top notch to get chain victories. And if you don't have anything better to do, you can just debuff them or make the enemies weak to the elements. Or Harvest more materials.

3. Hawkeye
The rifles are decently powerful, but the Warhead skill is very very great to use against enemies and later annoying bosses that can change weaknesses (and synergize well with Patissier's elemental cakes). The skill that ignores PDEF is also heaven-sent. The accuracy bonus is a nifty little bonus as well.

Honorable mentions:
Summoner - It's better now that there's Spellcraft. And with Conjuring thrown into the mix and a good MP default ability, it's a well rounded magic based job. There are healing and debuff too, really nice. But the MP cost still makes me wary.
Dark Knight - The dark skills plus Minus Strike are a good combo, and even if you're about to die, it's not so bad if you have the skill that activates when you die.

Dishonorable mentions:
Performer - Outshone by Astrologian. I don't really use strategies that use BP so I don't get a lot of use out of One More For You , but there's Cat Master's Vigor Tonic for that anyway.
Valkyrie - Jumping mechanics have never interested me and there's just so many more ways to deal more damage in the amount of turns needed to jump decently.

Other jobs of note
Ranger - The slayer skills are not really useful, they should've combined them to one command (like the Patissier baking ability), but I do love how powerful bow users can be (especially with the high speed that gives it an edge over Hawkeye). Add Multitask, Barrange, and the job's inherent passive ability and it's really a nice one trick pony.

Guardian - Not very fun to use, I find. The skills are just okay (the physical mirror seems like it can be useful though) but you have to get hit to fill a separate bar other than MP, HP, and BP. It's not really good for attacking. I suppose it's like mostly a Tank, but that's just not my playstyle at all. The design is rather ugly, as well.

Merchant - Never really got into this one either. The skills do not seem very useful to me and I'm a bit leery about using pg as well (for most of the game at least).

Yoko and Kaiser - Really cool jobs in concept and both did get some playtime from me, but their skills are very costly and situational. I'm sure there are cool tricks involving their skills.

Kaiser is actually the job that lets you cheese the post-game ultra boss. It's two enemies, and one can revive the other so you're supposed to whittle them down and kill them at the same time. But using the Kaiser skill that prevents healing, it'll cause the AI to break and the one living will waste every turn trying to revive the dead one.

It's pretty interesting to see how they did it. Salve-Maker, Spell Fencer, Arcanist, Vampire, Conjurer, and Spirit Master were taken out...all IIRC had story reasons to be (except Spell Fencer?), but either way from what I can remember from BD...
Salve-Maker's and Arcanist's afflictions to Patissier. Though mixing was eliminated completely. Vampire's blue magic had a new home in Catmancer. Conjurer got relegated to Summoner's 11th skill, and Spirit Master's skill got dispersed the most. Overall they feel fine and not out of place. I especially like Conjuror being simplified to one job command.

It's interesting how they made Wizard and Bishop to serve as kinda sorta substitutes for Black Mage and White Mage. I much prefer the new jobs in this regard, as the innate abilities are much more useful. The mages only found their niche and become more competitive much later with Holy and Flare (even then, really only Holy...I prefer using Summoner or Time Mage for offensive magic command, and Wizard's magic did kinda petered out by the late game).

Also...it's really a shame they didn't play with different party configurations for the asterisk holders as much as they did in Bravely Default. It was a part I highly enjoyed back then, to see how the jobs and skills play off each other (so I can steal some ideas too!).

1. Experiment with the job and skill combinations. The job system is fantastic.

2. If you have multiple subquests to do, try to put some time between them...your mileage may vary, but if I do subquests after subquests, I got detached from the main story.

3. If you can, play Bravely Default first, since the gameplay here is immensely more polished, and it's a direct sequel, so it might be hard going back to BD after finishing this.
