MGX ended a bit better than Sankarea, but I don't find it better overall. Really shouldn't be any doubt about the fact that Dusk Maiden is the surperior of those three.

I thought MGX's ending was about as good as it could be. I mean the show doesn't really have a plot, there's not anything to really tie up. It was probably the most romantic episode in the series (still weird as hell of course) and they resolved that they're happy together. Not much else they could have done!

Yep. The "plot" is entirely the unique romance and how it progresses. I'd say it has a really relaxed feel to it since there's really not a lot of conflict or anything in it.

Okay. I just finished MGX and that means aside from mecha idolmaster every show close to finishing on my watch list is done. So some thoughts on the shows I finished (in order of completion)

1. Is This a Zombie? Of the Dead
This is more or less an extension of the first season and pretty much requires an S1 viewing to get the full enjoyment from it. None of the jokes are really new, in fact they reuse a lot of the same gags... but that doesn't mean they aren't still hilarious. This show has a lot of fan service, but it's used in a way where it's like integrated seamlessly into the show, so it almost adds to the humor instead of detracts from it. The main downfall was the season was short (10 episodes) and really didn't have a satisfying conclusion. 9/10.

2. Fate/Zero
The primary issue I have with the entire 25 episode run is they handle their characters really poorly. One of the issues is almost none of them have any real reason for the viewer to feel sympathetic towards them, and if they did, we don't know it because most of them don't get any development at all. The Rin episode gave her more development in 1 episode than most of the other characters got in the whole series.. she's not even a really important character this time around. Still, some parts were pretty good, they had good fights when they were not overally drawn out, and they picked it up a bit at the end. S1 = 7/10, S2 = 6/10


3. Medaka Box
I'm not gonna lie. I was looking forward to this. I think Medaka herself is a great character and she pretty much saves the show from being an easy drop. But the show itself is inconsistent. Some episodes are really entertaining, while others are just boring. The ending DBZ segment was cool, but too drawn out. The show got significantly better once glasses girl was introduced but even so... 5/10

4. Haiyore! Nyaruko-san
This show has been at the top of my rankings since week 1 and it's not changing. It's pretty much everything you could want from a parody/romcom. All the characters are pretty entertaining. Hastur is kinda lame, but he's pretty much playing the role of generic trap. Yes, the show does scream To-Love-Ru (with less fan service). The situational comedy, while it does get predictable in its craziness near the end, is still highly entertaining. RIP XOTH. BTW Nyaruko is easily the best character. 9/10

5. Jormungand
This had a lot of promise. It was just so badass... but lame characters and poor animation basically meant for it's downfall. One of the big issues is that I can't really pinpoint some major bad guy or anything, and if there is one, there is not really a confrontation. I also wish that someone, at least one person, important would die. 5/10.

6. Sakamichi no Apollon
The first episode was amazing, but IMO the show did not really carry it all the way through. It's impossible to ignore the bad Junichi drama in the middle or that Kaoru seemed to be either incredibly selfish or incredibly dense for the entire season. It also had one of the most rushed endings imaginable. But for the good. The romance and drama was generally good and the characters had good steady development for the most part. The music parts were okay, but it's not like they made any progress with it. 7/10.

7. Tsuritama
The primary thing that caught my attention with this show is the art style. It just looks really good. All of the characters are great, and the overall show is pretty funny. Because of the amount of humor and style of the show some of the more tense spots get a little lost (compared to a similar show like Penguindrum which handled these things brilliantly). IMO it could have benefited from having a full 24 episode run as the later segments seemed to become a bit rushed. 8/10

8. Dusk Maiden of Amnesia
This is essentially a show about a waifu level ghost who trolls people. This is an anime where I'd say each episode gets a little stronger than the last since they build off on each other pretty well. This is especially apparent near the end where the show turns a bit more serious and they begin to fully uncover the secrets of Yuuko. The ending is probably the most debated part of the show, and I choose to look at the ending as the anime staying consistent. I might have been more satisfied with the bad end, but I can't really complain about it. 9/10.

9. Acchi Kocchi
Moe show of the season. Has some light comedy, but the main draw were how kawaii the interactions between Io and Tsumiki were. Basically because Tsumiki is too shy to admit her feelings and Io is too clueless to notice. Despite this their friends constantly hint at this to no avail. I'm pretty sure this happens in real life, but i have no experience in such matters obviously since I post in this topic. 8/10.

10. Mysterious Girlfriend X
Know what this is? Creepiest show of the season. I can not even... I mean I don't... Urabe is pretty entertaining and the first couple of episodes were great but none of the other characters really did it for me. Like Medaka box this show was kind of inconsistent. Yes, like if they replaced the drool part with something less creepy I'd probably like the show a lot more. However, I will give it props for actually moving the romance along where you can tell it's slowly becoming more intimate rather than everything suddenly happening. 5/10.

well if we're rating stuff, i still need to finish some of this backlog. BUT:

1) Moretsu Pirates - from the beginning i knew i was gonna love this show, partially due to the OP (best this year and will be really hard to beat). Marika's an awesome lead character but as you get introduced to the rest of the cast they too end up being various shades of awesome. Kane is so badass he'll even look good in a speedo. Misa will extort you however necessary while being an awesome driver. Ririka will blast the hell out of you. cyborg dude will... well, be a cyborg and beat you senseless. pretty much everyone had something good about them (and i don't have to get into Chiaki being adorable) to the point where even the lesser characters got some good, solid screentime to be enjoyed. just loved the hell out of the show and currently my fave anime this year. the ending did a great job in wrapping things up while leaving the door open so you truly do get a full story told and they sure as hell didn't skimp on the climax. it's a 10/10 for me.

2) Fate/Zero - the two halves combined are friggin' amazing. the animation is superb, Rider is the most badass of kings (he's gone well beyond being measured as a man - even Gil agrees!), and the way both Waver and Kotomine evolved was fantastic. ep 23 was probably my favorite episode this year out of any anime so hell yes. anyway, well worth the watch so now it's to wait until the BDs come out and see what got cut out of the TV scenes. 9.5/10

3) Kimi to Boku 2 - best male character this season is Chizuru. best ED this season goes to this, which has a very Nodame feel to it. won't spoil which episode it was, but one of them blew me away when it happened and instantly made this show one of the top ones to see. it's awesome and a semi-serious slice of life/coming of age show done right. also, Kaname's mom top tier. 9.5/10

4) Zombie S2 - they really layed on the fanservice thick this season, especially with multiple Eu. really like that they increased the harem in a reasonable way to include MORE vampire ninjas and a token human, who he caves for at times even when it's against his health. Haruna's top tier this season and i must admit, the curse Chris has on her is one of the most horrible curses ever imagined. truly terrifying. now i just hope the harem grows to include Chris and the strongest manga artist ever. come on zombie magical girl, you can get them all. #Ayumu-All i guess we'll have to wait until the BDs to get more of our fill ala Zombie 1 did. 8.5/10

5) Jormungand - first time i see this show: HELL YES GUNS. show continues: HELL YES CRAZY PEOPLE. no panties girl: HELL YES CRAZY PEOPLE WITH GUNS. also badass old men. and Johan makes for a damn fine main character, the smartest sane guy of the group who isn't 50 (and a total badass). Koko's an adorable, evil little b**** of a main and i love it for that. Valmet meanwhile is.... something else. she's specifically fanservice bait but dear god the muscles on that woman. i understand why she took on a lot of the story from that point of view and it clearly was meant to be about her half the time, but still. animation was slick as hell though, and the little ditty has me jammin' every time the credits/car scene is played. HER NAME IS KOKO SHE IS LOKO AND I'M LIKE OH NO. do want. still, dig the animation, dig the characters and crazy antics (Scarecrow is particularly funny in that he gets owned every single time), and lookin' forward to this continuing. i love my guns and crazy people, and this show has tons of it. 8/10.

6) MGX - part weird, part slice of life, part romance. not much supernatural goin' on which is nice, but just enough to make it weird and interesting. Urabe is an awesome character but she lets the lead get away with way, way too much. looking forward to the eventual S2 and maybe S3 if they go that far. it's an easy goin' show that's just simple to watch. nothin' wrong with that. 7.5/10

7) Amnesia - starts good, gets kinda dull in the middle, good end. great OP in this show and i like how it transitions itself from strange supernaturla to romance. they didn't do all the relationships well though and really made Kyrie just kinda... there over time, when it seemed like she should be more than that. i also have no idea what happened to blond Yuuko, she just... randomly came in before vanishing to do nothing. lame there, that. show was okay. enjoyable while it lasted, so hey. 7/10

8) Medeka Box - almost dropped it at the start but it got progressively better over time, especially with the cheap swimming babe, but then the show goes 'screw this FULL SHOUNEN NOW' and is awesome for those 3 or so eps. seriously was the most random transition this season and i couldn't help but love the cheese in it. well done, that. still, the first part hurts and that can't be forgiven! not sure if it's ongoing or getting a second season, later on (ditto for Jormungand), but since it's being rated: 7/10

9) Upotte - there are guns. there are girls. then there were guns that are girls. the premise: awesome. the fanservice: awesome. the comedy: hilarious, especially if you know a thing or two on guns. an M-16 being the covergirl of the school just makes sense because AMERICA F*** YEAH, but her being so inferior to others is true too. the way they made Sig to basically be "goddamn overpowered swiss guns" was something i enjoyed (and hated, because goddamn is she overpowered), but hey. the show was fun, got weird when it was serious at the end, but hey i can dig. mostly because seriously, it's guns as chicks. stock = underwear. caliber = size. type = grade. breast = weight relative to size (i think). hair = magazine. am i missing anything? good show if you want something wacky. if you don't, well, you should stay far, far away from this. 7/10

10) Nyaruko-san - s'okay. not that great and Nyaruko got way too much airtime, which i suppose is purposeful to make you get how annoying she can be. main character isn't that great, and i blame wind-trap boy's existence on him, which is absolutely terrible. i'm more of a fan of twintail otaku lesbian-turned-bi with fire powers, but Nyaruko's fine too (and she's better, character-wise, due to screentime really). still, i saw, i enjoyed a bit, good enough. 6/10

11) Sankarea - disappointing anime of the season. it starts promising, and the real life tie-in is nice. if you aren't getting it: man who eat a person's face only had weed found in him, drug-wise, while Rea eats a poisonous plant to maintains herself being normal. when she's not? well, the last time she did it she drew blood from the lead's face. me thinks there's something the author knows. anyway, 5/10.

Jinrui was pretty weird but good. Might not have been the best intro episode since I feel like I don't know much about the world though I guess that could be the intention. Art was beautiful.

Beated 3 shows today.

Medaka Box: Welp, filler ending, was ok.

Mysterious Girlfriend X: Easily the best of the "girlfriend" trio, last episode itself was fine.

Queen's Blade: Rebellion: Speaking of girlfriend....who needs them when you have an imouto harem! This was actually much better than I thought it would be, granted I watched it with non-existent expectations.

And I'm kinda glad that there isn't that much that I plan to watch for the summer season. My job eats up a lot of my time, so it makes it easier to catch up on a few shows, watch older stuff, and actually play some games for once.

As expected of Satelight, CG mecha. It's weird that they use 2D for the mecha in one scene and then switch to CG the next. I was expecting this to be a bit higher budget, but the colors are flat :(
