Maybe some voters actually remembered that Nintendo has dominated the handheld gaming market for practically its entire existence and factored that into their vote. Nintendo is a much more reasonable option than the one currently winning the poll, anyway.

"None of the above" is what I'd call the most reasonable response, since it lends to the more-likely scenario of multiple companies achieving multiple things aimed at different crowds.

You know, like what we have goin' on right now. I just can't really see a Sony-in-1999 level takeover happening again without some radical, radical changes to the gaming industry, which is instead leading elsewhere. And even Sony-in-1999 is a bit of a misnomer, because Nintendo was succeeding adequately with the N64 and an actual handheld and stuff, it's just that the PlayStation was outselling the Big N four-to-one worldwide.

Apple is the only correct answer there. Anyone voting Nintendo is still living in 1996.

You believe that it is much more likely for Apple to completely dominate the entire field than to be faced with a 2022 with multiple competitors? I dunno man.

How involved are Apple and Google in video games today? Do they publish any games? Do they own any development studios? It's hard to imagine either of them "dominating" in ten years when they still have so many rudimentary steps to take. Microsoft has been in the console business longer than ten years now, and they haven't managed to dominate.

Who knows? Maybe in ten years' time Nintendo will predict the next big fad, dominate hardware sales, and then fade back into irrelevance a year or two later. Y'know, 2006-2008 all over again.

But yeah, "none of the above" is the most reasonable answer here.

Apple said they will never enter the console race.

Even if we don't factor that in, I'm not sure what Apple offers that other smartphone manufacturers don't.

Yep. Wii sales might have slown down, but they still dominated this generation. The DS and Wii have got to be the most profitable (and among the best selling) game machines of all time. The WiiU looks set for a far less historic flight, but on the handheld front, Nintendo looks poised to dominate Sony yet again.

I think this generation has been two parts--one Nintendo, the other Microsoft. The Wii carried the industry in the first half, but the 360 has been doing it the second half. Wii still sold more, but the difference between the 360 and Wii in the US is only 5 million.

Even then, I don't see Apple literally dominating to the point that it's on the indisputable top in every spectrum of the gaming industry, even in ten years, which is how I, at least, read the poll.

The PS2's still the best selling gaming machine of all time. DS is reasonably close second, however. Wii, meanwhile, is still trailing behind PSX and Gameboy/Gameboy Color. That said, 3DS apparently had the best first year sales of ANY system, period, so...

A word like "dominate" is usually reserved for the best selling or most profitable of... whatever it is you're talking about. Nintendo may not have been popular among hardcore gamers this gen, but to deny that they dominated (especially when factoring in the DS) is JUST WRONG. And yeah, the Wii might not even catch up to the PS1 at this point, but it almost certainly made more money than any Sony system. It had at least a dozen first party titles that sold 10+ million each, that's a ****ing joke.

And I voted for Microsoft. They've done a great job growing the Xbox brand this gen. They really have their eyes on the prize, and Western devs leapfrogging Japan benefits them more than Sony or Nintendo.

I actually think that nintendo is doing horrible in this poll, considering that its gamefaqs. I mean 10 years ago nintendo would be winning with something like 65% of the vote.

It is interesting to see that even gfaqs is becoming less faithful towards nintendo. I'll be honest i feel that nintendo has been extremely bad since about 2003. A few gems here and there, but nothing like the mid 90s.

Apple by far has the best chance to dominate the industry in the coming years. Gaming for the most part is separated in 2 eras: before the crash of the early 80s, and after. I think were about to see the beginning of a 3rd major era that focuses mostly on services and portability leading the charge, not consoles.

Google and Apple are the dumb answers here imhhho. Like Yo said Microsoft has been doing this 10 years and still hasn't taken any sort of lead and I Google and Apple haven't really got their feet wet in a serious shot at the race yet, so I'm thinking at best you're going to expect one of them to be "competitive" in 10 years.

Microsoft or None of the Above are the answers that make the most sense to me. Mostly cause Microsoft seems to be the only major console competitor trending upward right now, so if you're betting on anyone it'd make the most sense to go with them. But on the other hand no company has dominated since the NES days really so that's probably the smart choice. I went for Microsoft just because it's more fun to have a horse.

Of course. Regardless of how much the people here hate the Wii it was a huge success. Once they understand that it is a different system the casual fanbase will buy the Wii-U as well. The 3DS is already doing amazingly. Nintendo is also the only one of the 3 console developers that isn't trying to get rid of used games which will fail terribly.

102.49 million PlayStations vs 32.93 Nintendo 64s and 9.5 million Saturns isn't dominating?

154.2 million PlayStation 2s vs 24 million Xboxes and 21.74 million GameCubes isn't dominating?
