Finally got all the parts for my new comp, but never really thought which Anti-Virus I'd use.

Is Avast still the standard?

Kapersky is good but will piss you off a lot of you play games online

Why would it be no longer good?

Fun fact: It's been at least a year since I've had any anti-viruses or ran any scans or anyhing. I only have Windows Firewall. No problems so far.

only time i've ever had to reformat due to virus was when i wasn't running it. and even before the reformat i had some annoying viruses that took hours to get rid of in safe mode, using malware bytes, etc. also i was running avast then, it was so useless.

If was you want completely free and have a legit copy of Windows, Microsoft Security Essentials is pretty good. Also doesn't use up much ram so it's pretty good if you are conserving that for gaming.

avast! is good, I hear MSE is good (then again, I don't really trust Microsoft for security), AVG was good, but it became a resource hog.

Kaspersky is the best when it comes to paid anti-viruses, but when I had it, it thought that every game I had installed was a keylogger.

Avoid Norton and McAfee like the plague.

Microsoft Security Essentials is what I use. It works great. Unlike avast! and Avira when I used them, it kind of stays out of your way unless it needs to tell you something important. It's been more effective than both as well, as it caught some things they missed.

Kaspersky's best paid easily.

Never had a trouble with it bugging my games. The only game it ever gave me s*** for is battlefield heroes.

Kaspersky was good but it was giving me way too many false positives and it got annoying. I've preferred MSE ever since I started running it instead.

Also yes, just in case it needs to be restated, avoid Norton at all costs.
