Europeans don't really run suicide Karthus nor do they see it as a strategy from what I've seen. They treat Karthus' passive like Anivia's; it's a second chance in case they make a mistake, not an excuse to go super aggro.
Also pro players dont sit in Karthus ult when he goes in suicide. They exhuast him and kill him and then move back and fight 4on5.
I generally agree with the assessment that Karthus' passive shouldn't be used to suicide willy nilly (it's pretty bad unless you can force a fight, ie. Jarvan ult), but in siege positions you should be suiciding to create short positional advantages if there's no major objectives out on the map. Doubly so if you have no way to force a fight.
Maybe it's just because I've had a lot of dominion experience, which contains constant situations with a defender's advantage, but if Karth is ever forced to lane swap out of bot, he basically has to suicide on points to ever contribute to a point attack unless your team has another good way to initiate (and even then, he generally converges to trying to die on point anyways).
Actually, it's even more generic than THAT. In Starcraft 2, there's a well known saying: "when you are ahead, get more ahead." In short, if you have an advantage, you should not take a risk to attempt to end the game immediately and instead leverage your advantage to turn it into an overwhelming one.
However, in LoL (well, in SC as well, it's just a lot harder to measure), there's an eventual limit to being ahead. If you have baron and the buffs, and you've filled all your item slots, that's it. That's as far ahead as you can get. So any progress on your opponent's side (and due to how it works, LoL has constant progress) at that point makes you less ahead. So you must take action before that point. You can't do what M5 did and try to leverage your advantage for half an hour.
M5 must have realised their only way get a tactical advantage was to poke them down with Corki (which wasn't working because they had too much heal and creep clearing) or to leverage the fact that CLG can't go where defile is, so the late game will heavily favour CLG if they're on the defence unless Karth suicides.
I really like this post. Watching a lot of Day[9] has me thinking in a specific mindset a lot of the time, and I really like how you use the "get more ahead" thing and relate it to LoL. It's why I generally dislike being needlessly aggressive, because I grew up with SC and BW. But like you said, in LoL, there are definite plateaus - once you've got six items and 3 elixirs, your build can't really get any better - unless you're an AD carry swapping out AS boots for a PD or something like that. Sometimes you can sell your early/mid-game items for better late-game items, but the benefits there are much smaller than the other team adding a full item in a slot, not just modifying one of their slots.

Yeah, I may have to quit LoL. The game freezes half the time I play now. Tried every possible fix I could find and nothing works, which leads me to believe that it's on the end of the game, as it only started after the Darius patch. Sigh.
my brother had the same problem as you after the Darius patch. Darius was the graphics update, right?
He said he solved the problem by updating his drivers, putting everything on the lowest settings, and then configuring his machine to use really old visual settings so that it looks like he's running Windows 95, and now he gets it only a little worse than before the patch
didn't they try to make it so LoL was easier to run on low-end machines?
I mean, my internet has been absolute crap for the last two weeks so I haven't tried to play any multiplayer games... I had trouble getting 360 video quality during the GESL/Dreamhack. I hope things get better in the next patch for ya, KP

I already updated my drivers and did everything else all the fix-it guides told me to. I guess I could try playing on the lowest settings but...I really shouldn't have to. The game runs perfectly up until the moment it freezes for absolutely no reason.
It takes one baddie in one lane to make him spiral out of control, and the whole of your CC users to be too stupid to shut him down before he can get rolling.
Like, I've had games where he was absolute trash despite getting a leg up (Sup realo) and games where he just steamrolls out of nowhere.

^And that is why I love Darius in top lane. I feed on whoever I am facing then during the teamfight stage they burn all their CC to kill me and my AD carry(if they did decent at all) and the rest of my team completely own them since I did as much damage as I could including using my ult on the most dangerous of the other team when I was near death(yes even if it doesn't get the kill). Or I don't completely own top but still do decent and simply destroy the other team during teamfights cause they don't care about me at all and burn all their CC on someone else.

Why build a Philo but not turn it into Shurelia's? It helps with Udyr's biggest problem (getting kited).

Tiger or Phoenix Udyr? I hate the guy. But Shuries is really good on him. Wit's End, Randuins, Reverie, Trinity Force, Frozen Heart/FoN, Merc Treads or something like is the Phoenix Udyr build IIRC. Tiger is something similar but more damages.

hm maybe I will do that then. And Sell Wit's End late game if enough gold to pick something else up I guess? And yea Phoenix. I think Frozen Mallet might be better then FH or FoN against a balanced team though...Meh one of those three depending on the team is prob best.
Anyways Ugh so many champs I want to buy but have no IP to get. Udyr/Sona/Morde/Urgot are all champs I want to get and getting them will give me at least two champs for every role that I like using. But I still need to finish up my Support Rune Page and get a Jungler Rune Page also.

Wit's is really good. It's giving you like 50 MR and bonus damage on every hit. It's one of the best items in the game still even after they just nerfed it for being too good. I would almost never sell Wit's End if I had built on on a Tanky DPS.
Udyr is supposed to be a tank late game anyway. Like what item would be replacing it with? Maw? Warmogs? Guardian Angel? Force of Nature?

I guess that is true...I always forget how good Wit's is cause it so cheap lol >_> Just like how I was meh on Wriggle's until I started using it on my AD top lane people and now I love it and rarely ever sell it cause it is ridic good for the price.

Wriggles, Wit's End, Reverie, Abyssal Sceptor, Deathfire and Aegis of the Legion jump out to me as Cheap but really strong items.
I think Brut, Doran items and like Chalice on an AD champion are the only items I buy with intent on selling later these days. Maybe Philostone/HoG sometimes if I decide I don't need what they upgrade into.
So I've played 3 games with Blitz now and all three of them I ended up winning (largely thanks to me) with someone saying 'gg wp blitz'

might become my favorite champ. He's got room for aggressive play AND he's a support, which are basically the only things I'm good at atm. Also Rocket Grab is SO TROLL. I love it when I'm on the right end of that q.
I don't see how splash art and some IP gain changes can turn neutral creeps invisible and generally make the game an unplayable mess. It's just beyond belief.

Wit's End is indeed dumb on champs like Shyvana and Udyr.
Shyvana can double proc Wit's which is dumb and Udyr+Phoenix Stance can just build Wit's and all tank items and still do great sustain damage.
Solo Top Malphite finally broke loose and I love it because it's showing people how many viable champions there are that we ignore because we spend so much time doing whatever the pros do.
I also hate it because it's the final straw for Gangplank players. If you blind pick GP into Malphite just sit there and pray he shoves his lane because if he freezes it he can turn you into a support champion.

Malphite can crap on any AD top. Vayne can out lane him from 1-5 because of knockback. The second he hits 6 you're done.
I'm going down the champion list and it's hard to find people that can dump on Malphite. Some APs like Rumble/Vlad crap on him, but he can just Gold Items and Farm on them.
Kayle is really the only AD who can trash him because her slow has longer range(slightly) and she can kite his ass with E/W. IF you can smart cast her Ult against his Ult it gets ugly.

I have recently discovered the greatness of Karma top lane. In this post-Darius world, I am having a fantastic time pooping all over these kids with Karma.
Funny enough, if your team lets you, Karma can absolutely crap on Top Lane.
She's a strong counter pick against mid lanes with no shoving potential and she can run Morgana into an infinite farming stale mate.
But top lane is where she can shine. Her problem mid lane is she's outranged endlessly but up top she has a speed up for escapes, a slow down for chasing, a ridiculous shield, and endless sustain.
Every time an enemy goes to last hit a creep you Mantra+Shield it and take his last hit AND put out damage. She can outplay quite a few champs.
