Welp, I was a derp and took off my nano body armor so i could put on a batpack and mine better with a mining drill...

and then fell into unexpected lava and forgot that with the batpack on that i could take damage from it and did not get the nanochestplate back on in time...

luckily someone was willing to trade for some diamonds so it wasn't quite so bad to get back on my feet, but i lost a full nanosuit, two mining lasers, a diamond drill, chainsaw, and my nano saber >_<

morale of the story: wear all nano all the time.

So, about /home.

I am noticing that some people are using it a lot, especially when in a situation where they could be hurt even slightly during mining trips or when they are near spawners. It's not unusual for me to see a lot of uses of /home in the server logs, and I am thinking that it might be making things too easy by almost eliminating risk. My question is, how does everyone feel about it? Is /home too prone to abuse, and if so, should I disable it or charge game money for use of it?

Keep in mind that I originally disabled /home, but it was reenabled accidentally. I kept it enabled now because I didn't want to disrupt things.

I only use /home for two reasons:
1. Using a bed doesn't set your spawn for some reason
2. I was trying to figure out how to fix my nether portal teleporting me to Jeff's

charging money for /home will stop people using it willy-nilly. Being able to blue pill is probably a necessary function when you're the only person who can /tp people, and you're not always around.

By the way EVERYONE, I set up an enchantment table near Jeff's house. The easiest way to get there is through the nether portal, so if you have a portal that connects you to his house, it should be easy to access.

First community project: Rail system!

Soon, everything will be more connected! To help, please contribute your resources to the cause (leave stuff in the Bro House, or sell things to the store, although donating helps out a lot more because of how stuff is set up). Also, if you need to smelt anything, we have a coke oven near the Bro House. Use it for smelting your wood. It takes longer, but it gives us creosote oil, which is desperately needed.

^This type of reaction is part of the reason why I love the Technic Pack and Tekkit. There's so many mods with so many things that you'll eventually go, "the hell is a _____."

A coke oven is a large thing that you can use to smelt wood into charcoal and has creosote oil as a byproduct. That helps with Railcraft rails. It also does stuff with plain old coal. Coal is, once again, vital in Tekkit.

You may have noticed a hole at spawn leading to an enchantment table. Figured it and spawn were prime places for project road to hit. Gotta pretty it up some, but the basic idea is to have something flat to easily run everywhere. I wanna get bridge structures in place over the water bits, but one step at a time.

I expanded that tunnel to the Bro Station.

Also, finished the tracks to the North Hub...mostly. There's some wooden tracks still there, but that will be fixed when I get more creosote. That's cooking right now.

I installed a coke oven next to my tree farm, which is fairly obviously next to my tower. I'll bring the creosote oil down every so often, but feel free to grab some if you're headed through that way.

Iron ingots and iron ore are now being stocked in the server shop! We can now have an iron-based economy. There are about 550 iron ingots and 200 iron ores in stock for your machine building pleasure. Kind of expensive, but get them now because I don't see them falling in price.

In other economic news, leases have now been retroactively placed on your properties. This is because money is kind of useless right now, so I figure that this will give you a reason to earn it. This also helps to reward players who play more often.

Just a reminder that I monitor all prices and balances, so if you're caught stealing and selling stuff to the store (including selling Bro House items), you do run a high risk of being caught. Don't do it!

For anyone wondering, yes, I did mess with it, but I was told to not restart it until later. It has been restarted and is now back up.

I've found an alternative to what I was trying to use, but it has less functionality unfortunately. Still, it might work for what I'm trying to do. We'll see, though.

Project: Road continues to be a thing I am slowly working at. So far I have me, jeff, spawn, gwin, wes, and gen connected in some form. I don't know who the person is that lives between gen and wes, but that shouldn't be hard to connect either. and you can jump in a lake of acid if you think i'm going to set up to the testificate village zach. (that actually would be kinda neat now that I think about it, but I would have to be reeeeeeally bored and it would be a super cheap path, as befitting of a road between regions.)

I have know idea where mote lives, or gearlessrobot, or the other regulars. I can work on connecting you to a path if you are not zach levels of distance away. Pay no mind to how stupid the road looks when crossing water or the aesthetically silly amount of torches in most places along the path...gonna be setting up beacons or something son, just gotta figure out a nice design for them.

I'm fine without a road. We have the underground tunnel and rail for that.

Which, actually, makes for an interesting thing: it is possible to have the system go to ground level in certain areas. Not sure how much sense that would make, but there you go. Might be a way to prevent roads and rail from competing with each other. Honestly, I originally wanted a rail system on the surface.

There is no real competition despite having similar facets. A road has an aesthetic quality that a rail would not. A rail will go faster though. A road can help keep you spatially oriented whereas railways can get a bit divorced from surroundings with samey tunnels. Both offer a link and are flat, but I feel there is enough merit for them to be able to coexist. One is a quick way to get around, and the other offers old and new players an easy way to figure out where the various areas are. I plan to eventually link to not just houses, but any major projects worth visiting. A rail system would have trouble with that I think, unless it got monstrously complex. It is good for hitting major spots though.

Rails are significantly more complex than roads, definitely. I'm learning Railcraft now so I can do all kinds of things. Rails are definitely easier for automating things. That's the current plan for power delivery, actually. If we can get creative with Computercraft and Railcraft, we can do some awesome stuff.

The expense, of course, is that it makes the system a bit more congested once we have EU carts and chest carts going around. Let me know if you need anything with roads.

I don't know what the update is. I don't see a new build, nothing is mentioned on their website, and I was able to do the update and log into the server just fine. I don't need to do anything to my server for now. You shouldn't need to update, but you can. I am just thinking that the update notification is a bug.

I watched a bunch of buildcraft tutorials

then I made a single player test world and designed a fully automated bio-fuel power plant!

It produces low voltage power, but quite a lot of it. Each bio-fuel tank generates 26040 EU. So, it can technically output to an MFE.

I want to build one on the server, but I'm not sure where a good place to do so would be, though.

So...time for a brief cautionary tale against underestimating nuclear power...

I had made this large building out of construction foam. Now this stuff is sturdy once it dries. Somewhere between stone and reinforced stone on the explodometer. Anyway, I get the building's walls and floors and ceiling coated in the stuff and decide that....i wanted a different design. I set about demolishing the construction. Laser slices through a whole 2 blocks. Drill takes a long time as there are a ton of blocks to chew through. I decide to bust out some tnt for once. Not a scratch. I lure a creeper over. Not a scratch. I resign myself to maybe just maybe breaking the blocks one by one or going to town with the marginally effective laser, but then I think maybe there is a faster way...

So I make a nuke, set it on top of the building and set it off.

Of note: a good chunk of the building survived the blast. I set the nuke off on the eastern side of the roof. The blast mostly went...east, the foam absorbing the brunt of it to the north, south, and west.

If I had not made a small gap around the base of the thing, it might not have escaped to my chessboard at all...

Anyway, nukes...there is a reason they are usually banned (zach will be correcting this next time the thing is reset)

I got a couple flatification terraformers working now (you can see them in the picture barely)

And I still will have to spend some time taking the rest of the building down >_<
