I feel like they detracted from/hurt their season, but didn't outright ruin it the way Colton, NaOnka, Brandon, Jane, Russell and Lex did theirs. Crystal Cox (Gabon, 6th place) It's funny that given all the f*ing a**s that were on Gabon, I'm picking probably barely the third biggest one (a**, that is, obviously she was the biggest person in the cast) to choose as the worst from it. And part of it is because I want to like Crystal because of her absolutely amazing story arc - she is cast for being an Olympic gold medalist, and yet she absolutely sucks at the challenges. Not to mention that post-show she had her medals stripped. Unfortunately, she had the personality of a porcupine with a stick shoved in an unpleasant place, and was very self-righteous (you'll notice that a lot of self-righteous people, especially those who were constantly show to be in the wrong, appear in this tier), and no matter how good her storyline was, I couldn't bring myself to like her. Seriously, I could see her being upset with Randy and Corinne, because they were absolute fing a***s to everyone, especially her, but there was no reason that she should have treated the others the way she did. They did nothing to her. Not to mention that rather than guarantee herself in a very entertaining final four with Bob, Corinne and Ken, she kept her vote the same and screwed over both Ken and herself, and we ended up with Susie and Matty in the final four. And then she was surprised when nobody would talk to her at Ponderosa. Was that dickish of them? Yeah. But I mean, the way she acted during the game I can't believe she was shocked. 419. Chase Rice (Nicaragua, 2nd place)** That's right, three Nicaragua players are in my bottom 10. And that's the problem with the season. The good characters are really good (it is tied for the most-represented season in my top 25, in fact), but the bad characters are just absolutely horrible. Going into the season, when you looked at the five younger guys, Chase was the one who didn't seem like a total too. Sash seemed like a douchebag. Benry seemed like a douchebag. Shannon seemed like a douchebag and a sexist. Fabio seemed like the very stereotype of the California surfer boy. And then there was Chase, who seemed like the good, honest, struggling country musician. Beginning in the second episode it was pretty clear that the guy had no backbone whatsoever. Rather than keep his alliance with Shannon, who posed no immediate threat, he voted him out in favor of Brenda, who was clearly a huge strategic player, just because she was his "girlfriend" (oh, and by the way, Brenda didn't see the relationship between herself and Chase this way). He continues making decisions like this up until the merge, when he eventually has to vote his friend Brenda out. Then NaOnka, on the verge of quitting, gives him her hidden immunity idol in case she does quit. So he tells the camera that if she doesn't quit, he isn't giving it back. Then it only gets worse when he continuously promises people rewards but can't follow through on them. And what makes matters worse is that he almost won the f**ing game on pity votes. I found that the two they did bring back, however, turned out to be one of the better things about the season. The cast of that season was just strange...somehow they never seem to register in the same way that people from other seasons had. Even the people who were outright asses seemed to be asses in a distant way. Having the specific two that they brought back from Palau, because of the way their Palau experience went, come back kept things a bit more compelling imo. For the first few episodes at any rate. Guatemala turned out to be incredibly boring overall. Second weakest season imo. -- Evacuate? In our moment of triumph? AdmiralZephyr 05/31/12 10:47:00 AM #158:	418. Chelsea Meissner (One World, 3rd place) I almost feel like I don't have to do a write-up for Chelsea, because she's pretty much Chase with boobs. But I will. Chelsea went into the game seeming like a good ol' country girl, and even when the game started she was a bit of a badass. Unfortunately this quickly died down when she was shown to have no spine, especially in voting out her friends Mike and Jay when she clearly didn't want to. She had every opportunity to blindside Kim and stop the most obvious and boring win in Survivor history from happening, but instead she took this opportunity to help vote out her friend Kat, who posed no strategic threat whatsoever. And she lost gloriously in the final tribal council. The reason I put her one spot higher that Chase is because at least we didn't have to listen to her sing some country song at the Reunion. 417. Clay Jordan (Thailand, 2nd place) A lot of runner-ups and a lot of Southerners in this update. Based on the reactions to him all over the internet, Clay is clearly a love-him-or-hate-him character, and I personally hate him. I'll admit that he has a similar qualities to other characters that I do like - the dumbass, slightly-bigoted redneck. Unfortunately I didn't find Clay one bit funny, in fact, I found him trying too hard to be funny for the camera, something Big Tom and Randy never had to do. They were just naturally funny. Clay was also pretty whiny and had no clue how the game worked, latching onto an extremely strategic player and almost beating him in the finals because the other guy was a total dick. Nope, don't like Clay, and I know Sanity and a few others are gonna jump on me for this. 416. Alicia Rosa (One World, 5th place) One World just barely misses out on being the second season to have three players in my bottom 10, and I decided to spare her from that fate for two reasons, which I'll get to in a bit. But clearly Alicia is a horrible person. She goes off on Christina for everything and anything from day one just because she decides she doesn't like her. She makes an alliance with Colton, the most horrible person in the game, and then b**es when he doesn't give her his immunity idol when he gets medivac'd. She constantly gets up in peoples' faces when they aren't doing anything to her. Let's not forget that in her final words she said "Screw you Christina," even though Christina was the one person who, despite being bullied by her on a daily basis, stood by her the whole game. Need I remind you that this bossy, impatient, rude, selfish woman works with children with special needs as a profession? Oh yeah, I don't need to, because she compared Christina to her students right there on the show. I spare her from the bottom 10 for two reasons - 1. She wasn't even the most horrible person on her season, which was a relief. 2. Her apology at the reunion actually seemed sincere. More sincere than Colton's, anyway. 415. Also, he wasn't nearly as bad of a player as some people say. The only people who say that were the ones who disliked watching him. But Clay made a number of positive social connections, mainly with Sook Jai. Of course Brian was the better player, since he was the best player ever. Alicia was entertaining, despite being awful for a lot of the season. I guess she's my 2nd favorite from this update of 5. I just recently rewatched Guatemala and it's an incredible season, much better than I remember it. The editing is spectacular, there are tons of great story arcs, and plenty of awesome characters, including a few that usually go overlooked. Even my least-favorite is still far from their appearance on the list. I just know SP has more people darkx hates (Ozzy and Brandon in particular), and RI has Phillip who he likes a lot. Plus the person making the run on redemption island was a lot worse in SP (Ozzy). Also we got to see more of why Rob won, instead of Sophie. Sometimes that's ok, other times it makes the season boring. Though, Rob's win wasn't nearly as obvious as it is in retrospect. I can't believe how many lists I see it at the bottom of, and as you just saw on my list, I say it's top 5 material. But if there's one black mark on the season, it's this guy right here. From day one it was clear that this guy was an obnoxious tool, and began one of the most cliquey alliances in Survivor history with himself, Zoe, Tammy and The General. And unfortunately their tribe was winning challenges, so they didn't get to go to tribal council often. Gabe and Rob, the two guys who realized that John was an obnoxious tool and was cakewalking through the game, got voted out for actually having the balls to stand up to him. It wasn't until Vecepia, Neleh and Paschal realized that this a**** was actually probably going to win if they didn't do something fast, and they quickly teamed up with the outsiders Kathy and Sean to knock out the cockiest alliance in Survivor history, which is one of the reasons why Marquesas is such a pleasing season to me. Oh, and he cried in his final words, to which I can only quote Nelson Muntz, "HA HA!" 414. Andria "Dreamz" Herd (Fiji, tied 2nd place) Dreamz had everything going for him going into the season to be a fan-favorite. He had gone through a lot in life at such a young age, having been homeless and had to raise his brothers and sisters on his own. Then the season starts and he's immediately pissing people off. As the season goes off he becomes self-righteous and hypocritical ("There's two people we can afford to lose, and I'm not pointing fingers, but it's Cassandra and Lisi"). Then he gets himself into the Four Horsemen alliance which is awful in and of itself, and he's the one who screws everything up for them. Well, Mookie gave him the bait, but he took it and ran with it. The pinnacle of his douchebaggery comes when Yau-Man wins a truck in a reward challenge, and Dreamz, never having owned a vehicle, wants it so bad that Yau-Man gives him the truck and asks that in return, if Dreamz wins immunity in the final four, he would give it to Yau-Man. So of course, the final four comes, and Dreamz wins immunity. Despite all of his talking to the camera about how he is a man of his word and everything, when the time comes for him to make the decision, he p*s out. So Yau-Man, America's favorite, gets voted out and Dreamz is in the final three and still expects people to vote for him even after acting like a douchebag for 39 days. We get one of the most unintentionally hilarious jury quotes ever when Yau-Man asks Dreamz to "have the gonads" to tell him why he went back on his deal. But yeah, Dreamz sucks. First, she voted out her friend Lisa because of one off-hand comment and immediately went on a crusade against her. Then she voted out the men for the sake of voting out the men. And then she really started to grind on my nerves with the whole Twila thing. Basically Twila swore on her kids that she was with Ami to the end, and then voted out her friend Leann behind her back. So Ami completely overreacts to this and acted like Twila was some unforgivable, for sure going to Hell b, when she herself was no saint throughout the game. And I was happy when her ass got voted off. Oh and what did she do with her jury vote? She voted for Twila, the one person who she felt was so mean and nasty and awful, just because she couldn't fathom the thought of a man winning a game that she was a part of. One thing I do have to say on Ami's behalf is that her strategy indirectly led to possibly the greatest Final Four of all time. 412. Ghandia Johnson (Thailand, 13th place) If there's one person who I'd have to say is probably universally hated among Survivor fans, it would have to be Ghandia. Like with every contestant, there's a small little group that's like "Omg Ghandiagoddess!" But I think everyone else absolutely hates her. And for a good reason. She took things way over the line. Basically what happened is one night in the shelter, she and Ted, the only other African American on the season, had formed a close bond and were snuggling a little. The next morning, Ghandia felt that Ted had gotten a bit too close and she felt uncomfortable. So she went up to Ted like an adult and told him what she felt. Ted immediately felt bad and apologized immensely, saying that he was half-asleep and confused and probably thought she was his wife, and suggested that they sleep on opposite sides of the shelter from now on to avoid something like that from happening again. She accepted his apology and that should have been the end of it. Later in the day, Ghandia decides that she doesn't accept Ted's apology, and rather than talk to him about it, she begins screaming and throwing things around like a child. When they finally get her to talk to Ted, she still won't talk to him like an adult, and Ted gives us a great unintentionally funny quote ("I'm 150 to 200 percent happy with the wife I have!") and basically the relationship between Ghandia and Ted is dead. So yeah, Ghandia traveled into the realm of uncomfortability and by all means should probably be down with Colton, NaOnka and Brandon, but thankfully we only had to deal with her for four episodes, so that's a bit of a relief. 411. Osten Taylor (Pearl Islands, 11th place) The original quitter. I dislike him for a few reasons. First, obviously, he started the trend of quitting. I doubt there would have been as many quits if it hadn't been for him. Second, out of all the people who have quit, there was absolutely no reason for him to quit. He was in great shape, doing well in challenges (except at swimming), and getting along well with his tribe, but decided that he was done and wanted outs. And finally, I'm upset because until he quit he was actually a fan favorite. People were rooting for him, and he goes and pulls this on us. I don't think anyone can say that they were particularly rooting for any of the other quitters. 410. A female runner up 409. A winner, however this is not them from the season that they won 408. I saw it pretty recently, and was surprised to find I didn't hate John for a while in. Before that, he was one of my most hated Survivors for a long time, and probably still is up there. But he actually seemed like a pretty reasonable dude in the earlier episodes. Then around...Gabe's boot maybe, he got annoying. I just didn't think he was nearly as bad as I used to. I'd go as far as to even say that Zoe was the worst person for that season, with John as the next worst. Of course his boot episode is still one of the greatest moments. But he actually seemed like a pretty reasonable dude in the earlier episodes. Then around...Gabe's boot maybe, he got annoying. I just didn't think he was nearly as bad as I used to. I'd go as far as to even say that Zoe was the worst person for that season, with John as the next worst. I just don't get those reasons. It seems to me that they frequently boil down to three things: 1. Kathy peeing on John's hand. Sure, it was entertaining for a minute, but it hardly carries a season. 2. The people on the outs flipping the game and voting out the controlling alliance. On paper, I agree that this would normally be something that would make a season interesting. But when every single person in the game is boring as hell, it doesn't make for compelling television regardless of what they do. Some people say "(insert season) had the worst final four out of any season" about seasons they dislike. I say that Marquesas had the worst final EIGHT of any season. I can get you not liking John, but he was the only person who seemed to be doing anything out of the final nine. After he got booted, it was just boring TV. The former outcats now become the controlling alliance and vote everyone else out, which is exactly the same thing. Except there's nothing even remotely compelling about any of them. Ugh. That's me, though. 3. PURPLE ROCK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! So what? It's a great idea for earlier in the game, but it sucked ass in a final four setting. That's my take on Marquesas. Your season rankings is quite different from my own. I suppose that's part of what makes Survivor great. Even the worst seasons are worth watching if you're a fan.
