Sweet merciful f***, yes! Avengers is too triumphant, Joss is the king. Also Scarlett Johansson is too hot. We need a Black Widow & Hawkeye movie, they stole the film I'd say. Everybody rocked, ha and man that end credits bit was glorious. Well played.

You're the reason comic book movies have sucked in the past.

It's a ****ing comic book movie, it doesn't need to be serious, even during the "serious" parts. In a way it makes the movie feel more natural and more relatable, as opposed to forcing drama down the throats of the viewers, as if a guy in blue and red tights can offer a deep and life changing dramatic connection with the viewer.

So are all you guys comic book fans? I genuinely loathe anti-mainstream or hipster behaviour, but honestly I don't get the near unanimous (on this board, at least) praise this movie has been getting. I thought the writing was so cheesy and corny, I felt like paying Whedon a visit and punch him in the face several times during the movie.

I mean stuff like Black Widow's "put me on hold", Captain America's "I got that reference" or Agent Coulson's "so that's what it does"; nobody actually likes this stuff, right?

The action scenes were great and overall I did like the movie, but it doesn't come anywhere near a lot of other superhero movies for me, like Watchmen or Nolan's Batmans.

I hope I'm not putting words in his mouth, but I think his point was that the parts that were supposed to be funny were unfunny/bad to him, not that comic book movies can never have funny moments.

This is why I like The Avengers so much better than Iron Man. Most of the jokes in The Avengers work. Iron Man tries super hard to be funny and completely fails at it.

It's official everyone. The Avengers is just as good the 2nd time. Just got back ^_^

Saw it in 2D and not IMAX this time (sadface) but it was still amazing. I still recommend 3D if you have the chance.

Oh and I don't think it has been specifically mentioned yet but (without spoiling anything) there are TWO scenes during the credits. Stay for both.

They aren't "absolutely vital" to see I suppose, but you just sat through 2 hours and 22 minutes of an amazing movie, you can wait a few more minutes for the last ounce of footage.

Yeah maybe, and I get how you could find it a funny movie, I just don't understand that that opinion is so dominant.

I thought the "I got that reference" line was pretty funny.

I didn't like that joke it because it was so obvious that he would get it. I mean, who wouldn't get that? It was such a weird analogy to make in the first place (something with a monkey??), it felt like they forced that into the conversation just to be able to make that joke. This sounds like I'm overthinking it, but that is the feeling that I got immediately.

It's not that I didn't like any of it though; I laughed at "he was adopted", for example. That was more natural and witty to me.

You're the reason comic book movies have sucked in the past.

Have they, though? I think there have been some great comic book movies the past couple of years. Even then, I'd hardly think directors would cater their comic book movies to my tastes, since it seems to be a solid minority opinion.

I guess I was expecting it to be more serious, but it doesn't necessarily have to be for me. It's fine if it's funny, I just didn't think it was.

Dude
are you for real.

Yes I am quite serious, I thought the dialogue was corny and not funny. I'm not trying to be captain buzzkill, that's just how I feel about it. And I'm not a tough audience either.

Not just any monkeys- flying monkeys. Like that guy above me said it's an Oz reference- a movie that was released in 1939 a few years before Cap Am got frozen for seven decades. He was excited to actually get a modern reference that someone else didn't. I thought it was cute. A little cheesy but cute.

it felt like they forced that into the conversation just to be able to make that joke.

I do kind of see where you were coming with this, but all the same I enjoyed it despite it not feeling like natural dialogue.

Well that's a little harsh; I simply did not get it. I stand corrected on this joke, it makes a lot more sense now knowing that it was actually a movie reference.

I rarely go to movies, and I never go back to the same movie; I will be going back to see The Avengers.

Everything that came out of Tony Stark's mouth was great (as usual), I've never seen The Hulk Movie but thought he was great and well done. Hawkeye I thought was the best done character overall. I knew the basics and whatever I deciphered from MvC3 and didn't really care, but this version was just kick-ass.

Galaga was top tier, as was the Hulk thing when he teamed with Thor. So unexpected and awesome.

Captain America's "I get it!" joke is a subtle way to characterize that hes not from this time

instead of showing him walk around messing with MP3 players or some blatant crap like that, they had him become delighted over something he DID understand and get in this brand new world

plus its pretty humorous how happy he got that something that he knew came up

my two cents, even though nobody cares anymore >_>

AWESOME MOVIE

I saw it with my older bro

and I'm gonna go see it with my bro (again) and my moms

and then I'm gonna go see it with some coworkers

seriously, I don't think I've gone to the theaters so many times in a short amount of time in ages

let alone watching the SAME movie

probably since I was little

that should say something!

Exactly Punnyz. I've never seen the same movie 3 times in 3 days before. And I've never been SO sure that I needed to get as many people to see this movie as possible. Not only because I know they will enjoy it but because I want this movie to be so unbelievably successful that they get Whedon and everyone else to work on the sequel as soon as possible.

Currently I''m responsible for nine other people having seen this movie over the opening weekend who would probably have skipped the movie all together.
