Steel is still used as an actual attack type for stuff like bullet punch, gyro ball, iron tail, and meteor mash. Poison just has toxic and toxic spikes, if you can even consider those offensive.

I did.

I mean, Snorlax and Tauros getting STAB on strong Normal moves was pretty scary, and Fighting was a joke back then...but it wasn't that bad.

Problem with Ice is While their type is amazing offensively, its utter **** defensively. That and Water basically gets most of their moves anyways.

It's hard picking a "worst" type. Poison is good defensively, but terrible offensively. Likewise with Steel. Ice is the opposite.

I think the worst would be one of the following: Normal, Ice, Dark, or even Grass. Going by the DPP generation, at least. (and I'm aware that, in RBY, Normal is the second best type after Psychic)

In RBY I'd say Fighting is the worst type, closely followed by Fire.

Poison is essentially useless offensively except for Toxic, Toxic Spikes, and Poison Powder.

Defensively it's sort of useless as well. Plenty of Pokemon across all types can learn a Psychic move. Unless the Pokemon has a strong secondary type to back it up, Poison types don't really fare well in battle.

It can't be Ice. Even if Ice types are pretty weak (though I love Weavile), the fact that it's so great as an offensive type overall makes it good.

Poison just always seems to be a liability as a defensive typing and offensively it doesn't do much.

Poison just always seems to be a liability as a defensive typing and offensively it doesn't do much.

Poison only has two weaknesses... one of which isn't used much in more recent gens (assuming this held true in gen 5, I don't follow that), and the other of which is easily countered by all sorts of secondary typings (flying obviously, but also bug and grass) and Levitate. In exchange for this they resist bug and fighting, two of the more common physical types. (Bug is mostly due to Scizor being wtfawesome, granted.) They also null Toxic/Poison. It's a pretty good typing defensively.

Offensively, yeah, lol.


I dunno what I consider the worst typing, I think that really changes from game to game. Hasn't been poison since RBY, though (and even then, RBY had other garbage typings like fighting, bug, and to a lesser extent fire).

At the time (in my Platinum game), I didn't want to waste a Toxic TM since Butterfree learned Poison Powder by leveling up. I also have Sleep Powder on it.
