Whose bright idea was it to make programs where the "x" button doesn't close the window - it only minimizes it? I swear I'm finding them everywhere >.<

well, AIM had a setting to switch it off

MSN I have to run in compatibility mode

Utorrent, Steam, AIM, MSN(although I rarely use it), and Skype come to mind offhand

same thing happens to me on Vista

Most of those at least close the window while running the program in the background. Skype literally just minimizes the window, which makes no sense at all. If I wanted to minimize your program, Skype, I would have clicked the minimize button slightly to the left instead.

I hate the way they changed how the "All Programs" list is set up. I liked having multiple columns instead of having to scroll. There doesn't seem to be an option to change it too.

I'm not exactly saying it's Windows 7's fault, just that this is something I hadn't encountered on this level before W7. Especially, like someone said, with Skype and a couple others, where it just minimizes the window.

The majority of things I hate about Windows 7 are because I work as technical support for HP printers

Trying to activate the run command on windows 7-"do you see in the left side on your keyboard the windows symbol..press it and the R key together..." "oh nothing happens" and other crap
Instead of the easy "press start then run"
Also - entering into Printer Server Propeties in 7 is stupid-you need to click on a printer to have that option enabled
AND THAT ANNOYING UAC I SWEAR TO GOD IM GOING TO FIND THE PERSON THAT CREATED IT AND... seriously this is just stupid

And for being a normal user-
No Windows Movie Maker (to compress vidoes)
And I had another thing that I rage every time I remember it but I got black out now so I dunno what it was

Um, that is Windows 7's fault for allowing the exit button functionality to be overwritten by a developer.

I actually really like the fact that uTorrent does this because I don't need the icon on my bar, but I still want my stuff to keep downloading.

It's also the only program I use that does this so it works out quite well for me.

I'm still using XP(master race) and all those programs do that here too. So it's just a general Microsoft issue.

No they don't.

Some send it to the icon tray(like uTorrent, AIM, and MSN), but they all close the window.

What I'm saying is that in 7, there are a lot of programs where it doesn't even close the window.

It really does do that with aim in XP, and yeah it's always been dumb.

I had XP Before and never had that problem with AIM o.o

It would always close the Window but give that little popup over the icon saying "AIM is still running!"

Open up Skype, go to Tools -> Options -> Advanced -> Advanced Settings, and uncheck "Keep Skype in the taskbar while I'm signed in." if you want the x button to close it.

Um, that is Windows 7's fault for allowing the exit button functionality to be overwritten by a developer.

Do you want Windows to become Mac, where all applications must completely conform to Apple's whims? It's the freedom of the Windows platform that makes it the superior operating system. This should never change.

I disagree that Windows is the superior operating system so, um, yeah. I much prefer any well designed Unix or Linux system to Windows. Applications in Windows have to completely conform to Microsoft's whims as well, so that statement is completely meaningless. It just so happens that Microsoft's whims are so lax that they allow stupid developers to do stupid things that negatively affect user experience.
