So hey, I've never played a Devil May Cry game before. I'd like to play a Devil May Cry game. So I got the HD Collection in order to do just that! I know very little about the series, except that somebody meant to fill somebody else's dark soul with light. I love action games, and I've heard mostly good things about the series.
Sooo... rules for this topic. Just don't post any spoilers until after I've gotten to a part. Any advice anybody can give me will be greatly appreciated though. And don't be a D in this topic either. Nobody likes a D.

So starting with Devil May Cry! If anything, the pre-game intro looks like it definitely has some good graphics! Let's see if the rest of the game does.
So we got a demon guy doing sword play in flames while we learn about a demon king named Sparda. Neat. And then we have Trish! I know her because of Marvel vs Capom 3. Dante's got one cool place. Which Trish plows through on her motorcycle. ...And then Trish seems like she's killing the hell out of Dante. Wtf? She even throws the motorcycle at him. This dialogue and action is so over the top. I'm assuming it should be, because I'm highly amused by it. Now, while everything is in HD, the movements aren't quite as fluid in HD. They still seem a bit stiff. Which, I mean, the game looks nice. I'll live with it.
Anyway, gameplay time! Going to go enter this castle! I found a Yellow Orb! I don't know what it does!
Mission 1: Curse of the Bloody Puppets
This game is charming already. Anyway, I run up to this conspicuous door and then a hand grabs me and tells me I need 45 red gems. Okey doke. I run around and grab them and return. This certainly feels like a PS2 action game in the way it controls. I steal a key from a puppet dude after I go through a few corridors and the puppets all attack me! OH NO! And it's been about fifteen minutes and I'm already f***ing stuck in this game. lol I can't lift up the gate, which I need to do, and I can't get up the ladder. I'm at a loss! I have a gate, a rusty key, and a ladder I can't ascend. WTF DO I DO!?
Oh, and is there more stuff I should do in combat beyond mashing Y? Because I can only shoot guns in the air.
...Oh, so after about another five minutes, I found the door at the main room to use it on. Weak. HEY EXTHANEMESIS, I'M TRYING TO READ S*** IN THIS GAME! I DON'T CARE THAT YOU'RE ONLINE NOW! QUIT SPAMMING ME WITH THAT FACT! Anyway, I kill the puppets to unlock the door after going down the elevator, then the ones when I go up top. And... MISSION COMPRETE! C Rank? F*** you.
This is going to be a treat, I'm sure. Since I clearly am not good at this game yet.

hold r (or z, I dunno, xbox 360) to lock onto crap
lock on + shoot will let you shoot
lock on + holding directions when you sword slice will let you do different moves
combos are timing based, so mashing y will give you one, then y, pause, y y will give you another one (actually I'm not 100% sure this is true in DMC1-- I haven't played that one nearly as much as 3 or 4)

I try to level up something, but I have no idea what to level up. But then I just go forward until I find... Alastor. The sword. Which impales the f*** out of Dante. It's cool though because he's alright. I find a Rusty Key in the next area and then use it on the door earlier... more enemies. Oh! I found out I can press up and X to make them fly in the air then use GUNZ. But yeah, can't find much else though. However, I got three little symbols since I got Alastor under my life bar. Not sure what that means. Then I hit something that required my strength for a bit and found a staff of judgement. Then PHANTOM GANON IS COMING OUT OF THE PAINTING!? No, just generic ghost enemies. I kill them, but I just kind of mashed and they went down eventually. I'm so pro at this game. After I did that, I put the staff of judgement where the sword was and... MISSION COMPRETE!

I got a rank D, by the way. F*** you. And it asks me to switch to easy mode? F*** YOU! I'M NOT A BABY!
Mission 3: Destroyer of Ardor
Hey! I can buy stuff for Alastor! Doing it. Got Stinger. No idea how to use it. But I have it now. After looking it up, it's just pressing the way Dante is facing while locked on and pressing Y. Cool. Anyway, I check out the glowing thing and it laser faces the door to open. I need to go do the trials, so I go to the obvious spot at the other side of this bridge to do that. And it does the unobvious thing of telling me that I need to do the trials to get the Pride of the Lion. So then I go back only to get shocked and the bridge breaks up. I go underwater and fight a bunch of killer skull heads. (wut?) and then I go teleport back up. That was a trip.
Then I go back and grab the Pride of Lion when a magma spider drops down to kill me. Whaaaaat? Dante just kind of taps it on the head like a badass. GO DANTE. Only I'm not nearly as cool as Dante and in fact suck at fighting this thing. And I used up all of my lives. What the f***? And I have to start from the beginning of this mission. Argggh.

...So apparently once you realize you have the Devil Trigger, this boss can be defeated within 30 seconds. How the f*** about that.
Anyway, after I beat it, I try to go across the bridge again, only to fall down and find a SECRET MISSION. That I failed, because I couldn't find the one spot critical hit on those scissor ghost things. Oh well. Apparently I can't even do anything over there! So I just go back and exit the door for a MISSION COMPRETE.
D rank f*** off.
Anyway, I'm going to take a break now.

I couldn't do it my first time. The game also keeps track of your ranking of every difficulty, so I never minded getting Easy over with anyways and then doing Normal all decked out and s***.
The f***? I just beat Black Knight with Ike not too long ago. OH WELL! I'm at 728 red orbs... so I've got quite a way to the 4000 orb Air Hike. I run back and- OH JESUS MOLTEN SPIDER!
IF I SEE THAT SPIDER ONE MORE TIME, THE GRITS ARE GONNA HIT THE PAN!
But seriously, that freaked me out. I backtrack to the room with the fountain and use the Pride of the Lion there. I woke up the Shadow Lion. And then I died. Whaaaat? How do you beat the Shadow Lion!? Oh, you just use GUNZ and then attack when convenient. Kay. I go onward until eventually I get to a room where I can jam the decorative sword into. I get a melancholy sword, then my reflection moves on its own. And then a Black Knight comes out and wants me to follow him outside. FINE!
I die to the Black Knight out of the first phase because he cheap shotted me as I climbed up to where he was. So I restarted the whole mission all over again... and then I died when he got all the way to the final part at the top area. Wtf? Why are the save points in this game so ridiculous?
Blech, I can't play any longer tonight. I'll pick it up tomorrow.

I hate those stupid shadow lions, they're easily my least favorite enemies in DMC. But that boss is actually pretty easy when you get his pattern down (although I guess the same could be said for just about all of the enemies in the game).
