If you've never played any of the PS1 games, I wouldn't recommend starting with CC unless you want to go from worst to best. All of the PS1 FF games are excellent. Can't go wrong there.

War of the Lions has bad slowdown and a terrible localization.

Though I heard they patched the slowdown? Or was that something else?

the script for fft psp is not worse than the original game

disliking the style is one thing, but the very fact that the psp game makes SENSE should make that clear enough, imo.

the slowdown is kind of annoying, yeah, but it doesn't make the game unplayable and you do get used to it. overall, i'd say if you're gonna get FFT, get it on the psp.

Just looked more into the games (Including suggested ones), I'm going to get Journey (Don't have time for two JRPGs), but I'm split on FF7 and CC. :(

Leaning towards Chrono Cross though, which has a battle system that looks rather confusing.

Was a big fan of Trigger. Okay so, after watching more gameplay videos I think I'm going to just go with Final Fantasy 7, since I know I do need to play that game, and I feel like it'll be harder to play if I play the later PS1 RPGs first.

You should definitely get Final Fantasy 7 if you've never played it. I don't even like FF that much, but 7 was very good (and I only first played it a couple years ago, after fully knowing about spoilers).

Other than that I don't know. I've tried FF8 and 9 and didn't care for either of them. And I believe I tried Tactics a little and it didn't interest me. Not sure about Chrono Cross. Maybe go with Journey because it seems really good. I would have it if I had money.

If you're a big fan of CT, you are more likely to be disappointed with CC than anything else.
