Clearly, then, the US would lose in a war to China. Right?

Anyway, the obvious answer here is Texas. IIRC it's the eighth-largest economy in the world when taken as its own sovereign state. A world capital for energy and oil, huge expansion rates (Houston's on track to become the third biggest city in the country)... oh, and don't forget about how they love their guns.

Do we assume that the military stationed in those states fights for those states? if so... actually that's still a difficult question, strictly ground or sea war, California takes it, incorporate in air warfare, and the victor becomes harder to predict.

Texas may be the eight largest economy in the world, Westbrick, but California is the FIFTH largest. So it has the advantage there. As for Oil,it may not produce as much as texas, but its no slouch in its own right in that regard. Houston may be on track to the third largest city, but California has San Francisco and LA. As for guns... well, you are underestimating how many are in LA, lest you forget we have Compton, Watts, East LA, etc. Not to mention we have numerous high profile military bases such as Edwards Airforce Base and Camp Pendelton

I'd say it's more a question of oil. If California can procure a steady refined oil supply then they'd probably win. But that would be difficult, what with almost all major US oil refineries being stationed in Texas or Louisiana.

Whoever wins... Nevada, Utah, Arizona, Colorado, New Mexico, and Oklahoma all lose.

As an ex-Californian myself, I think they would lose to Texas, especially in a ground war. It wasn't specified that military would be involved, so I assume just based on the inhabitants alone, Texas has the upper-hand.

I'd imagine a silly hypothetical like this would try to take all of a state's resources into account, and I believe that California has more military bases and a larger military population than any other state in the country.

As for the general populations, the gun-toting Texan cowboy stereotype means little when the population discrepancy is just that great. Texas may be a Republican state, but John McCain got more votes in CA than he did in TX despite getting his ass kicked in Cali. It's that much more populated. I'm sure it has more guns as well.

Straight up? I had no idea. May have to rethink my position!

I'd still bank on Texas though, if only because having an advantage in the energy industry is like having Dual CO Power in Advance Wars.

I'd go with California for the bigger economy and most importantly better technology. Population itself isn't going to be too important when it's only a 3:2 ratio.

California.. It would have to be a war fought largely by air and sea unless they just want to screw over arizona and all them and I feel like the tech advantage of Cali would help.

This is a dumb question though

Listen to Yoblazer.

McCain got 5,011,781 votes in California, half a million more than Texas.

California. The stereotypical tough guy in California is a gang member. The stereotypical tough guy in Texas is a cowboy. In a fight of gangs vs. cowboys, I just can't see cowboys winning.

gang members' ultimate allegiance is to their gang, not their state government, and they have no problem relocating, don't see them getting heavily involved aside from using the armed forces of cali/TX as a recruitment tool for their gang
