Everyone had said that this is one of the most one-sided rulings they've ever seen.

And yet, the Court of Appeals rule it to be ok.

The one chance he had of getting out of this mess, and it failed. And he's just further in debt now.

F*** this world. F*** this stupid f***ing world.

No, just spousal support. I'm the youngest at 24.

No, see, my mother was awarded $1600 a month in alimony payments and another $700 a month in "rent" payments for the house (even though my dad said he didn't want the house under any circumstances). Even when my dad was healthy and working, he only made $3600 a month take home. Meaning that before he even saw a dime of it, they were taking out $2300. He's working a 40+ hour a week job and he's only taking home $1300 a month at the end of the day.

He got hurt in November of 2010 and was unable to work since then. However, they didn't reduce the alimony until October of last year, meaning while he was getting NO money they were still charging those amounts. When he finally got SSD they reduced it for $500 a month alimony ("rent" stayed the same). But he still had to pay back all of the previous alimony under the $1600 pricetag, meaning he had to take out a mortgage on the house to pay off the owed money.

He only gets $2000 a month in SSD, meaning they're taking out $1200 before he even sees a dime. Keep in mind that he has to take care off all the bills of a 2900 square foot home, plus the taxes, plus other expenses (lawyer bills, credit card bills, water, heat, etc.). I try to pitch in all I can, but they took away my unemployment and I can't find a decent job to save my life (I haven't been able to get back to school thanks to this mess, either).

This was the one hope, the light at the end of the tunnel that would at least let my dad get back on his feet. Give him a chance to start over. He got nothing. No reduction in alimony, no chance in the division of marital assets (which also ruled heavily in my mother's favor), nothing.

God. F***ing. Dammit. That's all that I can say at this point.

She bought a brand new car.

In the meantime, my car that I bought with my money was considered marital assets because it wasn't in my name at the time, and therefore was sold off in the estate auction.

He wasn't going to function under the conditions set by the ruling. He lost everything. The situation is still just as awful as it could have been had he done nothing. Adding the $10,000 is more an insult than "making the situation worse" because even without that money owed he was still f***ed. You can't go below f***ed.

And keep in mind all this happened while he was having major back surgery. He can't even lay on his back anymore, he's under constant medication, he has only 30% movement in his right leg.

And I feel so awful because he's trying to push me away, and he doesn't want to drag me down with him, but I could never live with myself if I just walked away. I remember back in August when I got back from Seattle, and he just broke down and cried saying how he didn't want to any of this for me and he wished I would have just stayed out there.

What do I even do here? I spend so many sleepless nights trying to answer this damn question, and this ruling just makes everything worse.

I wouldn't be able to walk away either. I can sympathize in the sense that I absolutely love my dad and I don't care much for my mom (but she's not a terrible person, just really annoying). So I'd be the same as you, I wouldn't be able to leave my dad behind like that.

I guess the only thing you really can do is try your hardest to find a good job to help him out. It sucks no matter what.

Or maybe formulate a plan to... get your mother out of the picture >_>

Hey Rock, what about any siblings you have, what have they been doing and such? I hope none of them are on your mom's side.

My brother is home from Kentucky, he's completely oblivious to the going-ons or simply doesn't care.

My sister... is a large reason why my parents divorced. My dad was always trying to get my sister to move out of the house (never forced her, just trying to get her work or to look at studios for her photography business). Her response was to run to my mother and they pretty much spent more time together (including sharing the same bed). My sister is now 30 years old and still lives with my mother. And my mother never actively discouraged this. She was so overprotective of us that any attempts to push us out of the house would have been met with hostility, so my dad never really went after like, honestly, he should have to at least separate the stranglehold my sister had on my mom. All the while, her being (at the time) in her late 20's, my brother was living in Utah and I was living 450 miles north. But my sister never left the house. She went to school locally. Any jobs she took were local, and she never even used her degree (she was in elementary education).

So yeah, welcome to F***edupville.

So your sister needs to be taken out as well.

Maybe you could at least try to appeal to your brother. Get him to care and maybe the two of you can... do something, I don't know.

Another big, big maybe would be to try and... talk to your mom and convince her to stop being an evil b****. But I can't honestly suggest that because we all know it won't work and that would also include talking to her.

He's talked to a couple of bankruptcy lawyers. The problem is the house. It's a $200,000 asset. Having banks seize that would probably make the situation worse. He's better off trying to sell it on his own (which is what we're trying to do).

Have you ever considered that this might actually be what she actually thinks?

Have you even tried to reason with her or have you been stuck in "grrr b**** stupid woman grrr" mode ever since the divorce?

She filed for divorce in March of 2010. Up until August 2010 I was trying to reason with her. I didn't burn any bridge. She did.

Hell, I was OK with them getting a divorce until I found out she lied to me and it wasn't mutual. Hell, she didn't even have the audacity to tell him, he was just serve papers one day while they were still in the house together. But even though I was upset with her, I was still moving back and forth between the both of them.

She used the same excuse every time: I love you but I have to protect my financial future. Keep in mind by "protecting" her future, she's completely destroyed my father's. Also, she's got a bachelor's degree and is fully capable of working full time (she quit her job about 5-6 years ago because she didn't want to work more than 8 hours a week).

What kind of f***ed up world do we live in where a woman fully capable of working with no disabilities can just say "I don't feel like working anymore, this guy I hate can support me from now on" and the court system says "OK." I can understand maybe a year's worth to help her get started and get her own life together, but this is for the rest of my dad's life.

I mean, why should you be allowed to have financial security from a person you want nothing to do with? If she didn't want to be around my father anymore, fine. But why should she get all the financial benefits of having him around? Why does she get to ruin his finances just to "protect" her own?
