What kind of f***ed up world do we live in where a woman fully capable of working with no disabilities can just say "I don't feel like working anymore, this guy I hate can support me from now on" and the court system says "OK." I can understand maybe a year's worth to help her get started and get her own life together, but this is for the rest of my dad's life.

I mean, why should you be allowed to have financial security from a person you want nothing to do with? If she didn't want to be around my father anymore, fine. But why should she get all the financial benefits of having him around? Why does she get to ruin his finances just to "protect" her own?

The court of law is a woman's domain now. They totally have the upper hand.

Alright, screw it, this topic is going to turn into you guys yelling at each other about how much the world is unfair.

Just remember that you can't help your father by b****ing about how the world sucks, because right now he knows that more than anybody. Man up.

And I know if the reverse was true, my dad wouldn't take a dime.

My dad always asked if my mom needed money for something.

When my grandma died, my mom received a significant inheritance. My dad didn't ask for a dime, didn't even know how much she got.

My mom asked for $40,000 to invest in something. My dad didn't even ask what it was for, he gave her the money no questions asked.

It's probably why she did what she did. Doesn't justify what she did, just explains it.

So what the f*** was your point, other than to be your usual douchebag self? "Life sucks." Yeah, I know that. Excuse me for venting somewhere when it goes badly. And, obviously, that's all I do. I go on the internet, complain, then I sit in the corner all day doing nothing. It's not like I'm helping him fix and sell this house to help get him out of some of his problems. It's not that I willingly went to court on his behalf to testify for him. It's not like I care, cook, clean, and do pretty much all the stuff around the house for him. It's not like I drive him all over trying to find a new place to live. It's not like I don't tap into my own meager savings trying to pay off what I can. No, I just sit here, b****ing on the internet. That's all I do.

Would declaring bankruptcy help your dad at all? I'm no expert, but it seems like precisely the situation bankruptcy was made for.

He's talked to a couple of bankruptcy lawyers. The problem is the house. It's a $200,000 asset. Having banks seize that would probably make the situation worse. He's better off trying to sell it on his own (which is what we're trying to do).

what if you put the house in YOUR name, then sell it, so you claim all the assets, then have your dad declare bankruptcy?

Can't, half of it still belongs to my mother. When I say he won the house, I mean that he won the right to live in it while paying $700 a month to my mother. And when it's sold, she will get half.

I'm sorry, guessing the Court of Appeals didn't work out because the trial court/jury screwed up on issues of fact rather than law, and there's essentially no way to overturn factual findings.

What "big picture" are you talking about?

The relationship involving the mother is pretty much dead at this point. I doubt Rock would be in the mood to grovel, even if it would do anything.

What the f*** are you even talking about? There is no big picture, his dad got completely screwed over by a heartless b**** and now there's nothing that can at all be done about it. Rock can work his ass off to help his father, but in the end an innocent kind-hearted man who can't support himself too well gets screwed the f*** over for the rest of his life while an evil b**** who could easily support herself gets most of his money for no f***ing reason and gets to live without any actual responsibility.

The system is a joke.

And you're an a******.

I could understand your mother worrying about her financial stability, if your father's wasn't in such poor shape. That'd be one thing. Or if she was still raising kids they had together.

But for her to be like this with the shape your father is in is a whole other story. It sounds like she needs some sort of intervention.

If your dad can't stand up for himself, you should stand up for him. There's unfortunately not much else that you CAN do.

Do you not understand the concept of venting?

When someone has crap happen to them, they don't always want answers. They want people to listen to them and say "that sucks, I'm sorry." He's going through a terrible time and right now I'm sure he doesn't want to deal with people telling him what he "should" be doing.

Anyway, Rock, your story has been really disappointing with each update that happens. I'm really sorry you have to be going through this, and I wish I could say that things will get better. My dad had similar custody issues where my mom was lying (to me and doctors) to prevent me from seeing him. Very frustrating and one of my biggest regrets is listening to her lies about my dad and not seeing him for a year. I know how much it sucks to have your family put into a mess like this, though I'll admit I was younger and my case had much less long-lasting consequences.

Here's hoping the relevant people get what they deserve.

Do you not understand that this is basically rock's entire persona? "The guy who cries about his dad and likes AC"

It's far beyond venting at this point.

No. It's still venting. These issues have gone on a long time, and it has gotten worse with each new development. In which he would create a topic about it to vent and to also let the people here know what's going on. Because believe it or not some of us do care.

Otherwise I'm pretty sure he never posted about his life problems in other topics. He would keep it to the one specific topic he made and that's it.

And he likes Mass Effect as well.

Don't forget the High ground topics.

But yeah, when crap like this happens... you just need to talk to it about someone. It may not solve the problem, but the pain can be lessened by knowing that SOMEONE gives a damn about you.

I also run a podcast with Nick.

I do admit I talk about it a lot on Board 8 here, but honestly, it's the only place I have to turn to most of the time.

Most of my RL friends don't live around here anymore.

My distant family just don't get it, no matter how much you try to them.

Board 8 is the closest thing I have to a coping mechanism right now.

Feminism driven America, Rock. This is what feminism has brought to us, a world where something like this can happen and few, if any people will hear about it or bat an eye. I wish with my heart of hearts that your case was unique, but it really isn't. It's happening all over the country and I fear how bad it's going to have to get before something is done about it.

This is one of the worst cases though. This isn't just the normal divorce rape, this might be divorce murder, ffs.
