I've finished Wei's and Wu's stories. Done a bit of conquest mode but I wanted to finish all the stories before getting really into that. I'm liking it a lot though. I haven't played any of the main series since 5 but this one is pretty easily the best in the series I think. The presentation is really improved and while the gameplay is still pretty monotonous, I have a ton of fun with it. I'm a little disappointed you can't do two player in story mode though.

Story mode pretty much blew me away with how much they put into it. Granted, my last game was DW3 and that's pretty much what I was expecting, haha.

And two-player story mode is in Xtreme Legends! Along with a bunch of other cool stuff.

Price drops tend to be across the board, not by system. If it gets an official drop on the 360, the same will happen on the PS3. It isn't going to drop to $15 or whatever you could find it for later, but it'll come down. Warriors Orochi isn't a popular series!

The way I see it, I'll support Koei by buying this game. If they screw up DW8 the way they screwed up 7XL on 360 or by not doing English VA again, then I won't give them my money so willingly.

But for now, I am loving what they did with DW7 (hooray for buying it on PS3) and the DW7 DLC, and I understand that their games aren't exactly popular in the West making dubbing WO3 needlessly expensive, so they can have all my money for now.

Played the first two maps in Story Mode.

This is my first WO game, and it feels pretty weird. In place of the stat system of DW games, you level up by gaining experience. Weapons seem to be obtained like older DW games, where you can have different versions of the same weapon; in this game, one weapon can have a bunch of added effects (ice, extra speed) and another weapon can just have a bunch of slots. You can fuse weapons, too. I'm not sure how I feel about this system because I loved the way DW7 simplified everything, but I guess this is a nice change of pace.

I have no idea who the Samurai Warriors characters are (I only played SW1, and only briefly), so they all feel incredibly foreign. It seems like SW character musous are like old DW, where you hold circle and it drains your musou bar. DW7 characters kept one of their musous from DW7, and all characters are given an R1 special attack that drains a bit of your musou meter. For most DW characters, it's a variant of their other musou.

The map design feels a little wonky in the first map, but other maps seem like they are altered versions of past DW and SW maps.

Having everything voiced in Japanese sucks because you have no clue what people are shouting mid-battle, after battle, and during loading screens. You also have to pay attention to the text that appears when someone speaks in a battle, or you might miss an important detail. Augh.

Also, worst main menu music ever.

They throw characters at you, haha. I have so many, I dunno who to use! I'm using more SW characters just because they're brand new to me. Good to see that some characters got what used to be DLC weapons (Pang De got the Mace). There are 132 characters total in this game. Holy crap. That's DOUBLE DW7XL!

It seems like characters gain attacks the more you use them, but I can't tell if it's through leveling up, weapons, or Proficiency. There are so many things to keep track of, it's kind of nuts. Lots of menus.

Anyone else get this game?

Is the moveset system mainly based on DW7? That is, does it do the "weapon moveset" thing with a unique move per character, or do different characters actually have more unique moves this time around?
I've no problem with the way DW7 did things, but a little more diversity wouldn't hurt, especially with two casts being included in this one!

I don't know exactly what's changed, but most characters are their DW7 selves. According to the WO3 board,

Xu Huang, Yue Ying, Pang De all use different weapons now. Pretty sure Dong Zhuo does too.
Nu Wa and Fu Xi have their old move sets, also I don't see why they would change them.
Unsure about Ina having a differnt move set, but I see no reason they would change hers.
Most of the "clone" characters seem to have gotten at least 2-3 new charge moves. I know Huang Gai and Zhu Rong have at least one, Jia Xu has several, and I've heard that Ma Chao, Xu Zhu, and the two Qiaos have gotten several.

This is in addition to the decloned characters in 7XL (Zhao Yun, Xiahou Dun, Guan Yu, Zhang Fei, possibly a couple others.

It's a lot harder to tell when an enemy is using his musou. I've already game over'd twice out of nowhere. Make sure you save after you do anything at the main camp (buy/fuse weapons, change characters around, etc.). It sucks having to do all of that again!

Ayane is a beast. So is Lianshi.

Oh yeah, they started that new naming scheme for the women of DW to be more accurate. Lianshi, Zhenji, Sun Shangxiang, etc.

Overall, I'm really loving this game. A ton of characters, pretty much all of them unique, some cool stages, and they even added some incentive to kill the peons on the map (one of my biggest gripes with earlier DW games). Possibly the best Warriors game so far. Even the story isn't half bad.

I still think I prefer DW7's story mode because it's historical fiction, but damn if Warriors Orochi 3 isn't all sorts of amazing.

One thing I wish Koei had done is make the DW7 DLC costumes compatible with this game, but I realize that's pretty unreasonable. Plus, all the DW characters (that aren't new to 7) get their DW6 and 5 costumes anyway, and the characters in SW1 and 2 get their old costumes as alternates, as well.
