The biggest additions come soon after the PlayStation Vita version launches later this year - the 12 characters debuting on Vita will come to consoles as a $20.00 (1600 MSP) bundle. I know many were worried past character pricing would push the cost of this update sky high, so I'm happy to say Blanka, Sakura, Guy, Cody, Elena, Dudley, Alisa, Bryan, Christie, Jack, Lars and Lei will not break the bank.

To be fair, this is much better than the expected $5 for each character route that they could have taken, but the fact that they are sitting on my disc right now and that Capcom is trying to convince me that their on-disc DLC is a good deal just leaves a pretty bitter taste in my mouth.

Not to mention the fact that it feels like they only included the Color Edit mode just so they could give away "free" DLC by gimping it to hell and back with only 4 colors to choose from.

In absolute fairness, AE charged $15 for four characters.

Granted, they weren't on disc, but in terms of sheer value, we've seen worse.

For AE, the $15 was easier to swallow because they actually did work on the characters after the original game's release. On paper, $20 for 12 characters is a steal. But in this context, Capcom is just trying to pull a fast one on its fans. I was able to support Capcom with its various iterations of SF4 because it was clear that they weren't out solely to get my money through underhanded tactics; they were just trying to keep fans happy while learning how the current DLC market works.

SFxT just shows that they learned all the wrong things.

Please, elaborate. From what I know, these characters are on disc in their entirety. Whether Sony gave Capcom money to make the 12 characters Vita exclusive for a little while in order to increase Vita sales or not, Capcom wants to charge me extra to unlock them later.

I was okay with that, honestly.

It's the way that they're trying to spin this as some kind of great deal that's gotten to me. They're basically saying "here's your brand new car! It comes with four tires, but if you want that spare tire, it will cost you extra. But hey, since we're nice guys, we'll also give you a gas cap for free and rearview mirror for free!".

Well I was being a bit facetious there, but what I meant was DLC on disc is not a big deal, and has been done for a long time. Usually, DLC content is created after or during work on the main game is done, with money and intention specifically towards it being DLC. That means you aren't getting ripped off if you can't have it for free, since if it wasn't DLC it wouldn't exist at all. You might say, Capcom is evil, they ripped stuff that was going to be in the game and made it DLC and it being on the disc proves it. That's not impossible, but there is no way to tell. Secondly, characters and costumes being on the disc help prevent things like the huge MK9 debacle.

As for them making it out to be some sort of deal, I guess it kinda is if you look at that pricing compared to Jill and Shuma or other dlc characters and costumes.

As I said before, I don't have a problem with the characters themselves. It bothers me, sure, but I was more than willing to give my money to Capcom for them. It's that Capcom feels the need to gimp other parts of the game (color editor, gem loadout slots) that they initially hyped up just so they can give "free" stuff and appear like they're actually doing something nice.

I dunno if you've seen the Color Editor that they were touting, SEP, but it's kind of ridiculous how barebones it is.

I think a line has been crossed when on-disc DLC gets to the point where the developer intentionally gimps other parts of the game to give "free" stuff later to help bolster their image. When the 12 characters were first found on the disc, I just thought, "well that's lame," but I dealt with it. The other stuff in the game still looked great; the gameplay looked solid, the story mode actually had cutscenes (always a nice bonus in fighting games), and they even included a color editor this time around!

It just seems like Capcom is so worried about their public image now that they feel the need to resort hypocritical tactics such as hiding things like colors in the color editor so they can say "HEY WE GAVE YOU FREE STUFF you can't complain about them being on the disc". I'd rather they give us the color editor in full from the start and just sell us the characters without any of that fluff.

I mean, sure, we are going to get all the colors for free in the end, but it just feels so damn underhanded. It's kind of hard not to feel taken advantage of as a consumer.
