I've been meaning to get into more anime lately, and I need recommendations; I figured a new topic dedicated solely to my animation adventures would do better. Those who saw my older topic know that I just completed Elfen Lied (which was really solid), making it the fifth full anime series I've completed. For those curious, here's a ranking:

Death Note
Gurren Lagann
Dragon Ball Z
Monster
Elfen Lied

So now I need a new direction. Qualities I'm looking for are dark, psychological thrills, good and complex (even crazy) plots, and great animation. School Girls is on the frontlist, but if there's some other anime B8 would much rather me watch, then that's on the table too! I'll update every episode (or sometimes a set of episodes) with a moderate write-up and verdict.

Make me an "anime guy," B8.

[P.S. We had a bit of an accident involving Higurashi, so that's off the table.]

Anyway, while its not SO dark, Bakemonogatari has a lot of the qualities youre looking for (especially in the animation department)

Otherwise, the stuff people were recommending in the previous topic was on the right track for what youre looking for.

Not sure it would satisfy ALL these parameters, but I'd consider the Full Metal Alchemist series a must.
