Well, I love Max Payne (and also part 2 but not topping part 1), not just for the awesome gameplay but for the story and narration and style by awesome writer Sam Lake.
Anyhoo, those Finnish geniuses at Remedy sold it to Rockstar and went on to make Alan Wake. This game Max 3, well it's got nothing in common really with the old ones, looks generic as hell sooo I'm passing on it.

I give a great deal of damn given my admiration of the first two and Max Payne being one of my favorite fictional characters period. I am intrigued to see what direction Rockstar takes the series, but since Rockstar can do no wrong, it has to be fantastic.
Yeah MP2 was an amazing game because of the noir style and the story in general. Max was always a really awesome character but this game looks like it's s****ing all over everything that made the second game great. Turning Max into a old fat bald guy in some tropical setting is unforgivable. I'll probably get it on steam when it inevitably sells for 10 bucks one day.
That seems pretty closeminded. You do realize he's not "just" fat and bald, right? The story alternates between him in the present of Brazil and whatnot and events that led to him leaving New York. By the time he's in Brazil, his life is basically a wreck and he ends up shaving his head himself to at least have control over something in his life. In the New York flashbacks, he is 100% the same as he was, even down to the outfit, and you can see it in that last video I linked.
I'm looking forward to it because it actually seems to want to make Max Payne progress logically as a character. He's a self destructive, nearly psychotic at times, heavy drinking painkiller-addict with a noir inner dialogue. God forbid with all that he doesn't look like a model his whole life or lead a perfect life.
That, and I don't see anything wrong with the setting either, because they're obviously going to make it make sense in the context of the plot. There's nothing wrong with stuff happening in the day, and Brazil's criminal underground should be a lot more openly active than New York's. And for reference, Max Payne 2 had settings like some sort of amusement park funhouse and escorting a person dressed in a baseball mascot costume.

I playedMP2 so much when I was like 12, which is why I didn't care about the plot at all... all the noir comic cutscenes I just skipped. I just loved the characters and the humor, so the only way I think this can still mess up is if they don't bring that back and just make it about running around and killing a bunch of bad guys.
Yeah, this is probably in my top 3 most anticipated games this year.
I do like that they're adding cover, but they aren't doing a regenerating health system. So taking cover will actually be useful in order to setup "lines", if you will.

There was a signature here. It's gone now. Your face is bees.
Play and loved MP 2 (long loading times are long tho), but MP 2 really should have been the end of time. Kinda against MP 3 on principle only, but it looks okay, although a little too bright. Hope it doesn't lose its style and suffer through identitiy crisis.
2 would be a disappointing end to the series with what 3's showing as premises. I'd much rather have a sequel acknowledge the characters and build upon them than how 2 just replayed the same inner conflict (the death of his family) and started and ended with more or less nothing changed from 1.
