1. Frank Miller is a bigoted, sexist nutjob. His work has style, but his characters are shallow and not worth praising. 2. I did not say your comment was stupid because hookers are "taboo", but because you said "this list of women needs more hookers". If someone said "this list needs more serial killers" i would think they were weird, and making a stupid comment, but not a stupid potentially sexist comment. If they said this list needs more of a SPECIFIC serial killer/hooker character that actually was interesting, sure. I am sure there are plenty of well written characters of both of these types, but not written by Frank ****ing Miller.
Well, hey, we're all entitled to our tastes, but just pointing out, the ol "this needs this" thing isn't to be taken literally, it's just me pointing out some things I like I would've included.
And well, Frank Miller's 80s Batman work is still some of the most influential and acclaimed stuff in that field, only Watchmen is on the same level, that and Dark Knight Returns (and Year One) were and are freakin' huge. Plus his run on Daredevil, Sin City, I mean, personally I find it to be truly great stuff.
And his work is sexualized, but also features empowerment of women, I don't consider it sexist personally. He created freakin' Elektra.

in sin city literally every female character except for one is a prostitute or a stripper, they are always scantily clad, and their entire existence revolves around who is or who wants to sleep with them. The descriptions of them are always framed through the eyes of men as objects of sexual desire. I like sin city but even I could not be like "it empowers women!" with a straight face. the spirit is just as bad if not worse, every female "character" serves no purpose except fawning over the spirit. TDK returns is good, but guess what catwoman is portrayed as? running a ****ing escort service. her only function in the story? to get savagely beaten by the joker.
like, i am not trying to argue the guy has not done work for comics that is influential/considered great/whatever, but he has certainly lost his marbles over the years and even his notable work is awful in its portrayal of women. they are not characters, they are just fantasies.
But, I'd just like to point out, Catwoman starts out as a hooker, and ends up in her later years running an escort agency? Sounds to me like she moved up in the world.
"literally every female character except for one is a prostitute or a stripper". And? It's called Sin City. That those are their professions and they're still strong characters is kinda the point. Every male character is a violent thug or corrupt politician.
I don't wanna go further derailing with my views here ha that could probably use it's own topic. I know they're not mainstream views.

From: muddersmilk | #447 If you haven't already you should watch Xena. If you have then how did she not make the list!
I haven't watched Xena, she's on my to do list though (ohohoho~). I can imagine she probably would make the list.
In regard to Catwoman, I don't really know anything about her. I don't read her comics, and every incarnation in any other media that I've seen of her as been "meh" at best. She's a hottie though.
Also. Rizzoli almost made the list. But I realized the only reason I really like her is because Angie Harmon is smokin' hot and has dat rasp. I just liked other characters better.

Have ya read Batman: Year One at least? So classic. Also the animated adaptation is pretty good.

No, the only (non web) comic I really read is Batwoman, and even now I'm a couple months behind >_>

Another possible addition to this list could be Korra from the new Avatar series. She's awesome and bad ass, but I haven't really seen enough of her yet to place her or figure out exactly how bad ass she is.

A Xena watch through topic is a great idea! Although it would probably move pretty slowly. Like max one episode a day. Plus I have to finish Battlestar Galactica first >__> But I'm on the last season, so it shouldn't be too much longer. Watch out for it possibly!

Have about 6 episodes of Battlestar Galactica left and then I plan on starting Xena. Look for the topic maybe the beginning of next month? End of this month? Something like that.
