Today, someone came in and saw our Vita memory cards. we're selling them for some stupid reason before the vita is out

he said "Can I buy that one?" and I said "uh, are you sure? thats not for the PSP"

"I know"

"The Vitas not out yet"

"thats cool"

"Okay!"

2 hours later, he came back and wanted to return iit

"It doesn't work for the PSP"

My least favourite part of gamestop was this one quote, that I would overhear over and over again,

"He's 8. I don't think he cares how well made a game is."

Hearing parents refer to their kids as some sort of moron that doesn't comprehend quality yet at the ripe age of 8 would just make me so mad. Like they literally treat their kids like pets or something.

I was having dinner with my friend's family once and they had this couple visiting with a kid who I had never met before. I made a remark that people treat babies exactly the same as dogs and they flipped out like I was crazy.

I guess some people don't think that when you talk to kids in baby voices and put leashes on them and treat them like sub-humans just because they can't talk, it's treating them like dogs.

heres another story, its similar to the last one

so yea, a guy and his daughter walk in and he starts looking for games

He keeps asking "If she doesn't like the games, I can bring them back, right?"

and I Keep saying "Only if they're used and you bring them back within the week"

but the problem is...HE KEEPS LOOKING IN THE NEW SECTION

and I kept trying to correct him "Those are new games, *points* theres the used games"

but no, he keeps looking at the new. so this was a disaster waiting to happen

he finally settled on Ratchet and Clank. the 4 player one.

I told him again. "This is new, you can't return this if you don't like it"

but I made a mistake. this guy is clearly a moron, and I said "all you can do is trade it in for some money, BUT you won't get nearly as much" so this triggered in his head "I CAN GET MONEY LOL" and he was like "Oh ok" and still bought the game

yea, my fault for assuming he has a basic thought process

and yea, next night, he came in and started saying "I would like to return this"

and I'm like "I told you, you can't"

and yuppers, he started getting upset

"YOU TOLD ME"

"I said you could only trade it in for some money, and it wouldn't be close to the same amount"

and he was getting upset more and started giving me crap

then finally he settled down and asked for the trade in price

17 bucks

for a 60 game

even I was surprised, I guess the game might've gone on sale that day, cause usually a 60 dollar game would let you 20+ trade in.

so yea, he stormed out

I TOLD him.


BUT

the kicker is, he actually came in the next morning, and tried pulling the same crap. On my ditzy coworker (yall know her as cookie girl)
AND SHE ALMOST GAVE HIM THE MONEY BACK
but the manager showed up, observed the situation, and remember him being the same guy as last night and canceled the transaction since she wasn't supposed to be giving him a refund anyways.

I thought this too, since I'm aware of how beloved the series is

He said it was "Too hard for her"

but this could mean two things

1. Shes not really into games and didn't feel like getting the hang of the controls, and just said "She didn't like it" or something

2. The game was really for the dad. and since hes clearly an idiot, the game was actually probably too hard for his little mind to wrap around

Pretty much everyone who has worked retail for a length of time is aware that the average customer does not listen to or read anything at all. I once asked someone if they qualified for a certain discount, had them say no, then immediately look at their receipt and demand to know why they didn't get the discount in question. Then when I told her I had asked her and she said no, she replied "I thought you were trying to sell me something". That is what retail workers deal with multiple times every single day!
