Trying to get into the habit of drawing a little every day, I'll post my random doodlings in here for you to all be bored by!

This one is a sort of collage. Currently has Himeji Castle and the skyline of Yokohama. About halfway done, going to add the skyling rotated 180 to the top of the page as well. You can kind of see the outline.
Both are based off of photos I took in the summer, which I'll upload if I stop being lazy.



Going to try to finish this up tonight, doubt I will though. </exciting Friday night>





Feel free to post requests as well. No idea if I'll do any of them, but if I can't think of anything to draw I might look through some.

Right now actually thinking of switching from Computer Science as my major to Art, but you should all convince me that that is a terrible idea for the sake of me finding a job when I graduate.

XD, understandable.
And I put it in quotes due to most of what I post will be mindless doodles.

Like for example yesterday I couldn't think of anything to draw so I dew my coffee cup in a variety of ways!
(Not everything will be quite as almost decent as the castle/skyline one. <_<)

Sketching the basic shapes in pencil and then going over and adding the details with pen.

Haha, I'm normally the opposite and normally just draw in pen. I always hate how quickly pencil fades.
Figured for something this detailed outlining in pencil first was a good idea though. >_>

Yeah I really like your stuff. My problem is I've gotten perspective and everything down (kind of), but I have trouble filling in the blanks. Like, I guess I need to just use more reference.

Example: When I draw a skyscraper, don't know what to put on the walls or roof. I think I give myself a good base. I don't know, it seems to work out well when I finally get around to coloring stuff in.

I'm still not great at perspective (messed up a few places on the castle) and I know what you mean about filling in the blanks. If I didn't have reference photos my skyscrapers would look like rectangles.

Color is one think I'm still terrified of though. >_>

And am leaning towards switching to art as a major (lol jobs.)
Thought about it, and my main reasoning right now (besides liking to draw a lot more than program... which is the main reason) is that two people who learn Computer Science will end up creating the same basic stuff. Two people who go for art will most likely end up creating vastly different things.
Not sure why that makes me want to switch to art so badly, but it kinda does.

eh if I were you I'd switch to art unless it'd add extra time until graduation. You've got a lot of talent for both (how many undergrads can actually make a game from scratch) and really, if you've learned bad habits in art you'd probably benefit more from more art classes than you would from unlearning bad coding habits in CS classes. If that makes sense.

It would add a bit of time before graduation, but I'm already taking it a bit slow so I'm not too concerned about that.
As long as I can keep pulling in money through miscellaneous things I'm not in any super rush to graduate.

And yeah, was also sorta of thinking of what you said about bad habits as well.

I like drawing, too. But I usually only get as far as the outline of the idea, and have a terrible time coming up with the details to fill it in with. :P

There's no reason not to go for a CS major. You can still do art classes and stuff for electives, but you will get a degree that actually means something. You can always include your art in a portfolio for whatever, and it's very impressive to see a coder that is also an artist, while it's a lot harder to prove you are a good coder when you just have an Art degree.

Though I think that's kind of a moot point for you since you can point to Chester or ImgCake or b8train or *spoilers* if people want to know about your art/coding ability.

My goal in life is to be self employed in whatever I decide to do, so ideally a degree won't really mean that much to me. I think based on what I've been able to do over the past several years I have a shot at achieving that, but it would still be smart to have a degree as a sort of safety net.
Close enough to a CS degree where I might as well finish it up I suppose, but might decide to get a full art degree as well (or at least a minor, as would only need a few more classes after this semester due to the requirements for a minor in art being hilariously small.)

A lot of this wanting to change over is realizing over the past few months that I sort of hate programming.
