Okay after looking at the pre-order gems compared to the regular gems that is pretty f***ing stupid. I take back a lot of what I said but it's still not game breaking.
I mean it would be different if the pre-order gems just offered different activation methods but a lot of those are just BLATANTLY better than other gems.
Any word on an online play pass type of deal? Every decision made seems to make me want to buy this game used more, but it feels like one would fit right in here.
It's basically a customizable card game folded into your fighting game. Make sure you buy all the cards because the other players will have.
It's just lame and has no place in a competitive video game. It's obvious they're doing this to get more money out of the game. I have to communicate that I don't want that in competitive games and I do that by promising not to buy it. Hopefully if enough people skip the game altogether Capcom will get the message and stop doing stuff like this. If not, I'm more than willing to skip their future games as well.
Are you talking about something you have to buy to pass online like an EA pass or something? Capcom is pretty low sometimes but they aren't THAT low (at least not yet).
The main issue, bonek, is that people are still getting an advantage over you with these other gems. You're inherently at a disadvantage by not using them not by skill, but rather by design. I have no interest in it, and I think it's pretty lame that you get bonuses for dumb stuff like using a launcher, blocking, etc. They're just not something I want in my fighting game, especially Capcom has gone all out with dumb gameplay comeback mechanics lately. I was excited for a game that didn't have any of these shenanigans in it, but then they debut them as it gets closer to the release and it's just like... really?
I personally am not interested in the game that much after watching gameplay videos. It's like a stupefied version of SF4. I'd rather just play SF4 which seems much more refined.

Yeah, that's what I mean. I'd mind it a lot less than what they're doing with the gems, though.

Hah, I remember on one stream (I think E3? NorCal Regionals? One of those) Where Seth Killian said that SFxT will have no comeback mechanics and everyone was praising him for saying that and some people actually started to gain interest in it.
Then we had to get Pandora and Gems.

Honestly I have not loved a fighting game since 3S. ST, CvS2, 3S, those are the games that I've really been drawn to. I've made peace with SF4 and the Ultra comeback mechanic, but it's not anywhere near my ideal fighting game. Capcom keeps making choices for the genre that I dislike and it looks like SFxT is just gonna be a huge extension of that.
with my fighting game needs currently satisfied by SF4 and now SC5, i probably won't buy SFxT immediately, but i don't think i'm nearly as upset or anti-capcom about things as most people seem to be.
it still says something that i was incredibly hyped for this game a few months ago but now barely notice when characters are announced, i guess.
basically, i don't think capcom is going about this game in a good way at all, but i still hope the game is good.
i don't know what i'm saying there's just too much anger
Also Seth Killian as Capcom's mouthpiece yields hilarious moments like this.
This is the guy who complained about Supers in SSF2T before being employed by Capcom, calling them a comeback mechanic that were just added to make the game more appealing for casuals, and he's going to try to sing the merits of these gems to the competitive community.

Seth's a lot more creditable than Derek through. Seth just has to go through a lot of crap and you can see it person when he cringes about talking about gems, Yun/Yang, Wesker, Gen and X-Factor.

What's sad is that Seth Killian actually seems like he cares about the community. So when stuff like this ends up happening, he's trying hard to really make sure we can give it a try and attempt to like it. I kind of feel like he doesn't like the stuff like UMvC3 so soon and maybe some of these gems and pandora modes... but he kind of has to try and make them work as per command of people more important than him.

I don't blame Seth for saying these things. A paycheck's a paycheck, and I sure as hell wouldn't mind being paid to spin crap.
It's just funny that Capcom is literally paying someone who hates this kind of thing to try and make it sound like gold.
I think Capcom is finally going to start seeing a price for this kind of "We can do whatever we want so long as we keep funding Evo" mentality. The fighting game community seems ready to splinter since SFxT was announced for Evo, and it would be in Capcom's best interest for that not to happen.

Honestly it is for me. I've said this before but one of the biggest draws for fighting games is the characters. It's not limited to Poison though. Hell, the fact that it's a ****ing crossover game between two franchises I like with a bunch of characters that haven't been in a game in a while doesn't mean anything anymore if the game is bad.
I could deal with the characters I like being bad; if the game is good/fun you can still get excited about it. I've said this before too but SCV disappointed me with its cast but the game looks good so it's not a complete loss. But if the game itself is the problem which it looks like will be the issue with SFxT, it's hard to get excited about it no matter who's in it.
Yeah, the bad gameplay can ruin any roster. This game has Zangief vs Kuma, that's major hype there alone, yet gems just puts such a sour taste it ruins such a legendary matchup.
It also sucks that Elena and Rolento are finally back in a game and they get stuck in this one.

And I don't like them. Granted nobody did much with them at the moment since nobody knows what to do with them but they're still ugly as hell, even more in person.
