Yeah the criticisms from a lot of places of it not being original enough strike me as odd. I don't think Skyrim is terribly unique in terms of any of this stuff either, and it has never bothered me, it's more about gameplay freedom, and RPG stuff.

I've also seen one review, I think Game Informer, complain about no gameplay originality, which was also weird, since thats not what the game was setting out to be, they stated they just want to take the best from all these different games and put it in one game.

Giant Bomb says to just ignore stuff that seems flat and you will have a solid experience.

G4 really whines about the combat... once again, how does Skyrim so easily get the pass on so many things? Once again, love Skyrim, but it has shortcomings people don't seem to acknowledge a whole lot.

time for some more, but yeah Im pretty into this.

after a while of skyrim I got just flat out bored of most quests with dungeons just because the combat gets old eventually. I dont see that happening so far with Amalur.

Not sure why all the Skyrim comparison, I guess because Skyrim is popular. This has a lot more in common with Dragon Age I'd say.

oh yeah I totally agree. it's very different from skyrim, but thats also what brings about skyrim comparisons.

like man, an open world game with combat like this, it kind of puts skyrim to shame.

if amalur's side quests get as repetitive as people say, Skyrim outdoes it a bit in that regard.

Yeah, the repetitive aspect is what worries me. If it's like an MMORPG, then it can get repetitive like one too. Do this quest, then that one, then this, without much reward in terms of story and interest in any of them or feeling like they have any impact on anything.

still having FUN. the only real problem with the combat for me is not being able to lock on to people, that is slightly annoying. i'd say fable did this combat style a bit better for sure. I still like the combat, but it isn;t on Fable's level. I'd say it is better than DA2 though for what its worth.

I like the world a lot. I like the questing a lot. I like the LOOT a lot. I haven't even done any faction quests or main quests, which I assume are the best ones, and Im pretty into the questing right now.

I will admit, in terms of WRPG, Im guessing Witcher 2 and ME3 will end up being a decent bit better, but this seems worthy of a purchase from any WRPG fan.

to anyone who plays this, I suggest turning up the difficulty to hard.

the first couple dungeons I did on normal seemed perfect, then I was just owning everyone. I turned it up to hard, and the battles are back to being really intense, Im rolling and parrying a lot more now, and it's a lot better this way.

Oh snap, my copy got here today, I'm pleased. For some reason I find it funny how small Kingdoms of Amalur is on the front cover and how huge RECKONING is. I guess I should be calling the game RECKONING.

RECKONING is good fun so far, been rocking it for a couple hours, the game's got something, it's got pizazz.

I'm currently rocking it on normal, but I'm guessing that should be good for me here. I'm playing rogue/mage, so at the moment I can't equip mighty armors and stuff so I think it won't feel too easy until way later when I can rain hellfire on 'em.

At the moment I'm firing lasers with my sceptre and spinning fire chakrams around, very very fun weapons. Lovin' the game, it definitely deserves more hype.

surprisingly, a lot of the town quests really change the town you do them in.

1st town, doing that fae quest makes the fae girl live there, and you get dialogue based on that.

2nd town I made it too is really sick with some crap, and it looks like doing certain quests will fix the town's problems.

Im not super far, but early on I'm not seeing the repetitive quest problem at all.

I'm really liking this game. 6-ish hours in, very much enjoying it. Playing a pure rogue with my faeblades and the occasional chakram. Currently in Webwood.

The game has shades of MMO all over it - which is good, because I like MMO's (well, WoW anyway). Combat is by far the best part. And I immediately turned it up to hard mode. Each battle is much more intense on hard mode - though still doable.

I never did say it's NOT the deepest RPG on the 360, which, by the way, it's clearly trying to be. The game is massive. Of course that's what it wants. The actual deepest RPG on the 360 doesn't have PC voice acting either. I think it's stupid. No big deal. I'm sorry for not saying "this game is flawless"

I do want replies, but the whole "WOULD YOU SAY THAT ABOUT ZELDA???" thing is so old and doesn't apply here. It's an argument that doesn't make sense and is usually brought out in fanboy cases. IF that's not you, then fine, but it still doesn't apply. They're very different games.

You want a more expanded explanation? I feel that the dialogue in this game is TOP NOTCH. It's clearly been fine-tuned to such a degree that I feel like I'm reading a book at times. The other voice acting thus far is great. I feel like my character should speak - especially because he's so prevalent in cutscenes. In, say, Skyrim, it's all basically first person and it's more acceptable that your character doesn't speak. In this game, it would make sense. It would make a lot of sense.

And once again - this is all my opinion. I think it's pretty stupid and it's one of two flaws I listed for a game that I'm loving. It's something that has been cited as a negative elsewhere - or at least it's pointed out.

Hey fair enough, just personally I do think Zelda can apply here, OoT is a 3D RPG where you talk to people and explore, and I'm fine with the silent protagonist. And of course sure you can name all sorts of games, Dragon Age as well, it's a well established style, the silent protagonist. Especially when combined with picking what your character says via a text menu, it works perfectly well for me.

I do dig games with voice acting, and that style works well too, or partial voice acting, but that doesn't make one style stupid I'd say.

Well if you find the character lifeless in every way, that's talking about a lot more than voice acting. If for you just voice acting all the lines you say before the NPC is pretty key, well hey that's fine, for me it's pretty optional.

I mean, this is one of those games where you choose your characters actions and what they say. Do you find that entire subgenre boring, character wise? If so, thats cool, but it is pretty well established and it works for me.

Voice acting would make him not lifeless. And I think that subgenre would benefit from voicing all the lines. I never said the act of choosing was boring. I think it's a cop-out, because, given who is working on the game and the way they've set up all the other dialogue and the depth of the plot, that they either were rushed or lazy. It is, in my opinion, stupid. And a flaw.
