There's a difference between student content and school content. The student is not a somewhat governmental institution so if the student created something religious as some sort of student created product like a talent show or something that's okay.
The difference is that regardless of who created it, the school clearly considers this banner or whatever their own content/message. It's clearly representing the school and not the student.

I'm for freedom of speech, even when it offends people. So long as everyone's allowed their freedom of speech. I don't see how they're limiting anyones freedom here.
this is only a freedom of speech issue when people disagree with the complaint
if a Muslim kid wrote a prayer to Allah I guarantee most of the people defending this prayer would not be defending it. which makes them hypocrites, actually.

Would atheists defend an atheist pledge?

There's no such thing as an atheist pledge. Atheism is not a religion.
You could have a pledge like "I will always approach new ideas critically and demand evidence for unsupported claims" but then you wouldn't be making an atheist pledge, you'd be making a science pledge.

I want the opinions of a stereotypical religious American redneck on this matter. Fight for his religion, or fight for his country's constitution!
If America was cool, they would find these people and have their quotes up on the site.

lmao bob i can never judge if you are serious or not but imma just address the whole constitution s*** in general here
can we STOP pretending like we actually value and respect that s***? every atheist i know, myself included, does not give two s***s about the sanctity of the american value system. atheists are some of the least patriotic people on the planet, and are typically proud of that fact. the only time they truly give a crap about the constitution or america is when it is convenient to them. its selfish, and its kinda annoying. maintaining separation of church and state is not the endgame w/ stuff like this, its the means to an end which is simply a false sense of accomplishment of "showing them religulous people who is right hahaha"
grow up, be decent people and stop getting so womanly about people's prayers and all that other stupid stuff

Proof: the fact that roughly 50% of America thinks Obama is a secret Muslim and that this fact somehow makes him a bad President

most of the ultra patriotic religious zealot redneck types actually have very little care for the constitution, remember these are the people who put bush in office twice.
So are you for the free speech of religious people or against?
I think it's fine for her to be upset but I don't actually care. if she wants to crusade to get a religious poster taken down that's cool but it strikes me as something only teenagers with a lot of time on their hands would actually do.
I think the burden of proof for limiting speech should be pretty steep. maybe she's technically right but I think most of us aren't so easily offended that it actually matters.
I think the people flipping out and refusing to deliver flowers/calling her evil and all that are pretty silly too though.

Not even closes.
Agnosticism is as close to "non-religion" as you can get, because there is no explicit belief or disbelief in any higher power, or other traditionally religious claims. It is pretty much the "whatever, dude" of religious discussion. Agnosticism is the complete absence of faith, to the point it's more of a stance than a theism.
Atheism is all about how a deity cannot exist and anyone who believes so is a pitiable soul wasting their life believing in giant bearded wizards or some crap. It's far more venomous towards religious groups because they don't believe what they believe and they feel constantly oppressed by the religious imagery being shoved down their throats.
Sound familiar?

That sounds like a pretty biased view on atheism to me.

Atheism and agnosticism aren't mutually exclusive.
atheism and agnosticism become a religion when you start making those facts crucial parts of your life. when you go around broadcasting your world view, even if its "i dont know lol", then it enters the realm of religiousness. if you just live your life as an atheist/agnostic and dont really focus on it the way others do, then it doesnt cross that line. this is obviously not how more mainstream religions like christianity are defined before some wiseass brilliant deduces that contradiction and feels the need to point it out. its just my personal view on the whole 'is it religion' debate

maybe I'm the exception but I'm an agnostic and I seem to be the most venomous towards religion on this board. while I do accept the possibility of a higher power, organized religion as it has been fabricated by man is not only a waste of life but is actively hindering our progress as a species in virtually every way imaginable. technologically, socially, politically, culturally, you name it, religion has attached itself to it like a parasite and held it back. if there is a divine being they must be utterly embarrassed over the horrible things that have been done on their behalf.

atheism isn't about any of that. there's a specific subgroup like that but they're usually angry people anyway from what I've seen. there is no good descriptor for an atheist because the only thing it identifies is whether you believe there's a god or not.
"I don't believe in a god and I don't care if anyone else does" describes most I've interacted with. Not surprisingly, they're laid back on most other stuff too. They don't make atheism their personal identity or feel the need to publicly crusade against religion.
Of course I've met people like you described too. Dudes who randomly interject into your conversation with "there is no God, actually" or whatever. Those dudes suck. They're a loud minority AFAIK.

religion has existed for millenia before i was born and i can still do cocaine and suck on t***
I don't know how thin skinned you have to be to have what amounts to a motto bother you so much, but I also don't get why you'd threaten a person over... what amounts to a motto.
It's like two different types of witch hunts, it's ridiculous.
What happened to freedom of religion?

...But can he/she/it/they see why kids love Cinnamon Toast Crunch? http://img25.imageshack.us/img25/2233/landmasters.jpg
The girl is in the wrong because the message does not bother anyone. It's much more of a message about values and how students can be better people than a "prayer." Remove "To our heavenly father" and it's nothing religious whatsoever. The girl is apparently a raging atheist like the ones most of us already agreed suck, so she decided to ruin it for all the other kids and get her 15 minutes of glory by getting this removed.
The "I'm defending the constitution" excuse is laughable. I mean, really? The judge is also in the wrong because, especially in a case like this where no harm whatsoever is done and the "prayer" is a nice school tradition that most students like or are at least okay with, the SPIRIT of the law should be followed, not the letter. The message is good and valuable as it is, and it's for the better of society for it to stay. More harm is done than good by removing a message like that.
What would have happened if the request of the girl was denied? ...Nothing. She might've complained and the left-leaning media might've made an issue out of this, but certainly nothing NEARLY as bad (for all parties involved) as this would've happened.
What happened now? The girl has to be escorted by freaking police to school, she's denied service, a ton of people in her town hate her... And many people are offended by the message being removed. And the school loses a good message that can be a nice inspiration to students, religious or not.
Do people defending the judge's decision seriously not see all this?

Of course it should be. Just like, for instance, when you toss a small animal in a lion's cage, you know it'll get killed. When you're a judge and it's clear your decision would not benefit society one bit (quite the opposite), you're a damn bad judge if you make it regardless.
