But there's a fundamental difference between actively participating in sports and being a fan. There's people who perform in sports that actively hate doing it as well! And stop worrying about the percentages matching up with reality, they won't and it's not important. Once again, all you do is create another problem. You're assuming that when I say sports players, I refer to those only at the professional level. If I go out and play hoops in the backyard with my buddy, I'm also playing sports. There's also the fact that I might actively be able to play basketball, but my favorite sport is actually baseball. But physical and geographical limitations prevent me from ever actually playing it. And if each sport is consider it's own denomination, then what exactly would I be? I love baseball, it's my first love, but I actively "practice" basketball. How does that work? Here's why it doesn't work: You can't truly belong to multiple religions. You can actively belong to and enjoy multiple sports. Atheist don't believe that a God exists. Sports do exist, non-sport fans cannot deny it. -- TheRock ~ Slow dramatic zoom-pan. Doesn't phase the hooded man. ... Copied to Clipboard!

Atheism can't be a religion for one reason: There is no sort of organization and no official canon. Religion implies a sort of institutional role.
I'm not denying that Atheism isn't a spiritual belief. But it definitely isn't a religion.
