or atleast on-disk / planned before the game is released.

http://shoryuken.com/2012/01/27/capcom-responds-to-umvc3-dlc-requests-its-near-impossible-post-release-to-add-content-to-a-title-that-wasnt-planned/

It’s near impossible post release to add content to a title that wasn’t planned for before the title was released.

To which I respond "lolwut" and "loljapanesevideogamedevelopers" and "lolcrapcom".

This was in direct response to people requesting Megaman as a DLC for UMVC3. There is no further DLC planned for UMVC3. Except for costumes that are on disk and were ready before the game released.

Another nail in Capcom's coffin. I've been boycotting them since Legends 3 was cancelled.

It isn't that infeasible, guys. Making stuff takes a long time and the release process is even longer. Something like three months IIRC? So we're talking about DLC six months down the line, minimum. At that point less people will be playing the game, so sales will be low. I mean, there's tons of stuff to laugh at Capcom about, but I've seen how design works on the inside. It isn't as easy as it looks.

The thought of DLC needing to be Day 1 is hilarious.

Now, planned, I can see, but on-disk is the worst ****ing idea.

Look at Fallout/Oblivion. Yep, totally Day 1 stuff.
Same with Valve games.

Valve and Blizzard produce a lot of post game content that wasn't planned from day 1

I'm sure it's different based on each type of game but it seems more likely to me that Capcom is saying "it isn't worth it to us" not that it's actually hard

The entire point of DLC is to keep people coming back to the game. Extend it's life, so people don't just lose interest in the game.
