Facebook will never shut down. The only reason a site as huge as wikipedia did was because it isn't supported by ads.

Edit: and wikipedia didn't even really shut down. I do think it would be cool if facebook put a little message at the top or over the logo though.

Today's protest seems to have been effective, so although I still think Facebook blacking out would be awesome, I don't think now is the time because I think the SOPA/PIPA thing is probably in full retreat at this point. The idea of Facebook blacking out is an idea that should be shelved for the next serious threat. He probably still won't do it because there's too much at stake in keeping a site like Facebook running, but ohhh man it would be beautiful.
