Kind of late to the comment, but just wanted to add:

ExTha's complaint, to me, isn't about the game being high-scoring or not, but rather the way the points were scored. Let's use a fighting game analogy here:

Football Soccer: Scoring is like winning a round at Street Fighter. Ball dominance and field control stand in for chipping at the opponent's lifebar.

NA Football: Scoring is the lifebar hits. Multiple lifebar hits adds up to a won round, which adds up to a won game.

ExTha's problem is that, the way the points were scored, it was like watching Zangief score three straight SPDs with the other guy standing there. If you see 'Gief get in, bait attacks, force vulnerabilities, and THEN SPD to seal the deal, that's cool. If the other guy is so crappy he lets himself be SPD'd three times in a row, that's a bore.

...Man, this was a really nerdy analogy. Works surprisingly well though!

I'd say touchdowns to field goals in American football is more akin to field goals to free throws in basketball rather than dunks to three-pointers.

Alabama's defense was great - completely shut down LSU's ground game and got constant pressure on Jefferson. Still, LSU's execution and play-calling were atrocious.
