But there's no universe where the GOP produces someone who's actually, y'know, sane enough to win. It's like they want to lose.

It's like they want to lose.

This is my thought as well. I want to not vote Obama but the Republicans are making it so hard!

If you're a Republican in a heavily Democrat state, (or vice versa) why wouldn't you vote third party?

I'm not really anything, but I am in California. It doesn't matter what you vote, because the Democrat will always win.

you should never even consider voting for a Republican over a Democrat, every Republican president in the last 30 years has been awful.

I think if you don't want to vote for Obama, there are a couple suitable third party candidates more worth your time. That actually makes sense.

It is difficult to win against a sitting president, so any serious contenders are going to wait until 2016 when it's wide open.

It's not impossible. The GOP could at least put out someone who has a chance, however small.

I thought Reagan was pretty tolerable, but I wasn't alive for most of that. >_>

Romney is relatively sane, has to be considered the front-runner right now, and polls ahead of Obama in key areas like economy.

Unfortunately, Romney is like...an Obama Clone. Moderate politician who is very clearly a politician and takes only stances convenient for him as a politician (in Romney's case, literally any stance he thinks will help him in the polls even if it conflicts with a past position).

I don't know about you, but personally, our state had a really good Republican governor followed be a completely awful Democratic governor.

I think it has less to do with party lines and more to do with the individual running for office.

I used to be on the third party train so hard (I voted for Nader in 2008!)

but you have to realize that even if a third party managed to get 10% of the vote, they would just become another corrupt corporate party once they became viable. the problem is that we have to get money out of politics, otherwise even a third party won't fix things.

until we get money out of politics you pretty much should just vote for the party that leans in the direction you want, and hope for the best. because they are all bought and paid for crooks aside from the couple honest people (kucinich, sanders, paul)

All the British reports on the defence cuts he's just announced suggest that it's tantamount to electoral suicide. Are there enough people obsessed with wiping out foreigners on the off chance they might have decided to attack you later to put him out of office?

I kinda want to see Ron Paul elected, just cause either America will enter an age of unimaginable prosperity or we'll see it burned to the ground.

Either way, I wouldn't be around to experience it, but it'll certainly be fun to watch it from afar.

John Kerry lost the election because the republicans convinced everyone that democrats were sissy losers who shouldn't be in charge of a war, and america has a giant patriotic boner for the military and holds it on some infallible pedestal of greatness to convince poor people to join up, so yeah, it could definitely backfire against him if people are dumb. it is pretty hilarious that the same people screaming to cut the budget will probably be pissed about this "lol"

ron paul getting elected would just be 4 years of complete stagnation of congress followed by him promptly being voted out of office for holding up anything from getting done because people do not actually want the federal government to do nothing.

You're assuming that if Ron Paul was elected president, people with similar mindsets wouldn't win congressional seats as well.

It'd be a completely fundamental shift in how America thinks about politics in order for Paul to get elected, meaning people would vote for guys in line with Paul.

he destroyed our economy, redistributed wealth into the hands of a small percentage of the community, plunged us into debt to do it, and vastly expanded our military budget, which we are still suffering from today. it's amazing that far right conservatives have sainted him, he was a horrible president and wasn't especially popular during his two terms.

And yet it worked for Obama four years later!

I accepted, I just don't want LeBron to get injured and screw me over, by getting someone competent.

Since my whoe crux is Miami won't win BECAUSE of LeBron, why would I bet you that without LeBron they won't win.

I hope Buddy Roemer runs as a 3rd party. I want to (throw away my) vote for him for pretty much this reason. Running on campaign finance reform, and not accepting donations of more than $100? I'm a liberal, but I'd prefer him to almost any democrat.

I wonder why the media is completely ignoring him!

I wonder what would happen if the GOP finally went so insane that only the ultra-conservative Southern states would vote for them. Would we possibly get another major party? Or would the Democrats just win everything?
