Weird anecdote:

So in my continued personal project to watch all of UFC/PRIDE history up to the point where I initially became a fan, I just started The Ultimate Fighter season 7. I had no idea Jeremiah from Tough Enough was on that show!

He got his ass kicked in the initial fight to get onto the main roster of the season, but everyone agreed that he had heart and toughness, he just lacked actual skills and technique. Like, severely lacked them. <_<

Funny how those same traits translated to pro wrestling!

Waitwaitwait, I just figured out where they're going with the Hornswoggle thing! Remember how he wanted to enter the Royal Rumble? Well now that he's dead, Sheamus will dedicate his performance in the Rumble to his little buddy, and go on to win the whole thing in grand fashion!

If Hornswoggle won the Royal Rumble, would that be the greatest or worst thing ever?

Wade says 6 months but that's obviously heel exaggeration setting up a surprise "early" return.

I don't think anyone knows for sure exactly. The most recent thing I saw was that he might be able to do the Rumble if he had a 2010 Edge-like role where he enters late and barely does anything.

Hornswoggle winning would probably be the worst ever, and I'm the master of loving hilariously stupid results

true story

everybody in my section at royal rumble 2008 thought hornswoggle was going to win

it was the one where cena made the surprise return and him and triple h were the final two

well they did that thing earlier in the match where hornswoggle was about to be slammed by mark henry or somebody and finlay came out with the shillelagh and saved him. apparently that got hornswoggle DQed but nobody in the crowd knew that because i don't think it's ever happened before. so hornswoggle disappeared without going over the top rope and everybody thought cena and triple h were gonna eliminate each other so hornswoggle would win.

another prediction from that night was that jericho and JBL were going to face each other in a bullrope match at WM. jericho got DQ'd in their match earlier in the night by choking JBL with a microphone wire. JBL had choked him with the ropes earlier in the match and with wires on the previous raw. given all this choking and the nature of JBL's character, a bullrope match seemed like a sure thing. they were both in the elimination chamber the next ppv and although jericho eliminated JBL their feud just ended there for some reason. JBL ended up having the belfast brawl with finlay (which included a top 5 WM moment when he threw the garbage can at hornswoggle) while jericho competed in MITB.

On a side note, you'd have to think that this year's Rumble winner will succeed at Wrestlemania.

The Rumble winner is on a 4-year losing streak at WM. They love to bust out the "last 10 years" stat to stress how important the Rumble win is, of which now the last 10 years are only 6-4 in the Rumble winner's favor. They can't go too far in the hole or else the whole thing will start to lose its kayfabe importance statistically (and the Rumble is like the one time all year WWE gets really stat-heavy).

Since the "Winner goes to WM" stip was added, the Rumble winners are 10-9 at converting their win to a World Title at WM. A loss by this year's Rumble winner knocks the entire deal down to a .500 proposition.

The way I've always understood it is that Finlay was DQed not for the weapon use, but for entering before his number. It has never come up before or since, but if they told me that it was a way to get DQed in the Rumble going forward I would buy it. It makes sense.

And then Hornswoggle wasn't DQed, he just forfeited (or at least Finlay forfeited for him on Swoggle's behalf).

It seems way early to pick a winner, but if I had to pick now, Jericho easily. As attractive as the Ziggler/Punk feud is, they've brought up the idea of Jericho entering the Rumble, and lord knows that whatever they're doing with him right now, they're not tossing him into the Rumble just for him to lose. I kind of hope I'm wrong and they just mentioned Jericho being in the Rumble to set up the "Nope, that's not his plan" swerve. I'm digging Punk and Ziggler as a potential feud, and there are so many possibilities for the Rumble winner on Smackdown (Sheamus finally does something with this insane amount of momentum by winning and taking on heel AmDrag in a five star match, or that Wade winning at Rumble, Orton winning at Elimination Chamber thing someone else suggested, etc.).

Fun fact I was this close to putting Otunga or Slater.

Thing is I think I perceive Slater as funnier than he is due to HEATHULU and a gimmick I did in TEW one time where he Heath Slater claimed to be an alien from another planet come to make the earth bow down with the help of the NEXUS DEATH STAR, aka John Tenta aka The Shark aka Earthquake. Dude's gimmick is pretty lame and unfunny right now, though.

Sounds about right, but I might add Punk if you could think of a way for Ziggler to steal the title between now and Rumble.

The "you want a rematch? youve gotta win the rumble" story is a classic and would fit what theyve got going right now.

YEah, thats the challenged, they are pretty face deprived up top aside from the already busy Punk and Cena in that scenario.

The whole thing would be contingent on a returning Rey, who is honestly more likely to return at the Rumble match itself anyway.

They could totally make it work with Swagger! They're likely splitting soon anyway, and maybe Ziggler says something to Swagger about how no one even remembers his title run, and Swagger has had enough so he punches Ziggler and insults Vickie, thus turning face, and he gets one last shot at glory at the Rumble.

Okay yes, it's a stretch, but if you really want Punk to pull the "gotta win the Rumble for another title shot" story, then there you go. Punk should hold the championship at least until 'Mania, though.

Because they consolidated the belts, and because in WWE language they aren't "women," they're "divas," the Divas Title remained.

Same reason the World Tag Team Titles got abandoned after almost 30 years of lineage in favor of titles that still aren't even 10 years old yet. Consolidation to one set of titles, "WWE Tag Team Titles" got chosen over "World Tag Team Titles" for branding purposes.

http://wrestlinginc.com/wi/news/2012/0104/548284/chris-jericho/

Chris Jericho actually flew to WWE headquarters in Connecticut a while back and met with Vince McMahon to map out his return, all while claiming that he would never work with WWE again.
The cryptic videos leading to Jericho's return were WWE's Social Networking Department's idea. Several in the company felt that the campaign as too smart for its own good before they started airing.

During Jericho's unique return at Monday's RAW Supershow, people backstage were noting the similarities to the Dynamic Dudes character that John Laurinaitis played years ago.

Most expect Jericho to begin feuding with WWE Champion CM Punk, leading to a WrestleMania match. There is no word yet on exactly how long Jericho is back for but there was speculation going around that he will be involved in a major program after WrestleMania 28 with a match at SummerSlam.

Didn't someone else here compare him to Johnny Ace?

And yeah, if that's true, then not only does that mean there's still a chance at Ziggler vs Punk at 'Mania, but it means
a) Punk would retain through 'Mania.
b) Whatever Jericho's doing, it probably isn't entering the Rumble. Unless he's taking himself out due to his secretsterious plan.

I, for one, would not be surprised if his return is in someway tied to the Mayan calendar, and that he'll have a title reign leading into "the end of the world."

in terms of old men beating each other, or enjoyment? I think the card looks good. The two tag title matches should be fun, Liger's lucha matches always deliver, Nakamura is the best wrestler in the company and should get a great match out of the NOAH guys, and the two main events could go either way. it's streets ahead of last year's TNA infused abomination.

Painful as in these guys can beat each other up like there's no tomorrow.

They're much more popular overseas than they are in America, proportionally.

Not sure what you mean by "full US coverage" though.

Like... don't they not really tour the entire US? I was under the impression TNA still did most of their shows from the Florida area and just branched out occasionally to places nearby. Do they go around the entire US like WWE does?

And yeah TNA's been better the last few weeks. I took a break for about a month cause they were getting bad but yeah they've recovered a bit. They still have the problem of being literally incapable of having a clean finish ever and all their heels and faces congealing into allied groups even if they're not technically aligned but at least their direction is getting better.

Also Karen being off TV automatically makes the shows 80% more watchable. Just gotta get rid of the knockouts segments where they spend the whole time screeching at each other, and the always pointless Eric Young segments, and we'll be almost gold.

Not sure about how often they hit the West coast (although I know they HAVE been there), but yes, they hit everywhere notable in the Eastern and Central time zones at least annually.

EDIT: Those are by-and-large house shows though. Impact and PPVs are still at the Impact Zone 90% of the time.
