It's 16.3 meters tall, and somehow it weight less than a tank!

My friend and I have been watching through the Gundam Wing series and we stumbled across this little fact.

I know it supposed to be from the future and stuff, but how on earth does it only weigh 7.2 tons?

It's armor (not sure about the frame) is made of Gundanium. So it can be as lightweight as it wants.

I know little about the series, but does it take place on earth? Because weight, strictly speaking, is a measure of force, and would be lessened in a location with less gravity. If it took place in a space colony or something, 7.2 tons would be an incredibly impressive weight.

No it takes place in both space and the Earth. The Gundam he's talking about doesn't carry a lot of weapons and ammo, so I guess that can be used as an excuse.
