One of my biggest problems with 3rd Strike was how difficult it was to be effective with someone that wasn't top tier. Granted I jumped into a game 10 years after it was released and I played the very terrible online port (and I played Hugo but that's beside the point). But I still never felt like I was making any improvement as much fun as the game might have been if I stuck with it.

Its actually not that easy to be effective with 3S Yun. You gotta know how to combo into Genei Jin consistently (easier said than done for some reason) and learn the variations of it. He's not Oro technical but he's not a walk either, until you get him down and realize 70% of the match revolves around GENEI JIN.

Chun is yeah... There's like 4-5 things you will mostly ever use with her.

Ken is easy but you do have to know the fundamentals of the system and learn all of his tools (No, c.mk to SA3 is not all his tools)

Honestly Makoto isnt hard either. Just gotta learn her normals well and when and when not to Karakusa and using her Supers to their full advantage, and abuse that borderline borked dash.

OE isn't completely terrible. It has really bad online play and the timing feels off to some people even offline, but it isn't a horrible port.

But yeah. Chun is the only braindead easy character in 3S. I think if you ignore her, the game is very much a skill thing and is less about tiers. If someone is better than you, it's easy for them to show it regardless of what characters you choose.

That's probably less apparent online though, especially with the bad OE netcode. If you can't consistently parry and your inputs are being ignored because of frame drops and your hit confirms turn out to be fake because you saw it hit and then it rolls back, well you're not really playing 3S anymore and it won't be much fun.

One other thing I noticed - a lot of people who started 3S with OE on B8 chose hard characters. It's really not easy to be good with Alex or Hugo or Q. They can be good once you figure out the game, I just wouldn't start with them. The game has some balance problems for sure, but they're only exacerbated when you start with people like that.

Also Shoe didn't mention him, but I think Dudley is pretty easy to get into. FWIW I've had the hardest time learning Yun and then Makoto of all the good people. Urien can be tough too, but he's pretty technical and I've at least made some headway on him. I agree that Ken is relatively easy and good and he's pretty fun to be.

Well one of the problems I had with Hugo was that I couldn't consistently pull off his standing 360. I find it very easy in SF4, because of the short-cuts probably, but inputs in general felt weird in OE.

I think the input requirements are just more precise in 3S. There's a lot of areas where 4 is more lenient and it takes me a while to adjust when going back between the two.

Yeah and it just isn't worth it for me considering the popularity differences between the two games. Just too much work for something like that.

Well yeah SF4 is a lot more popular than 3S and it has a way better playing online situation, so if you're choosing where to put your time that's probably better. I'm just one of those people who likes 3S a lot more than SF4 so I'm willing to deal with the sketchy stuff to play it.

Some day they should put the Balrog/Vega/Bison names back to the way they're supposed to be so we can all be on the same page. Akuma/Gouki too. It'll be weird at first but like the FF series, we'll get used to it. People call them Claw/Dictator/Boxer anyway.

Connection problems are probably just the fact that it's michigan to alaska. I didn't expect it to be great, and that certainly wasn't great.

for my part, my internet is still having a bad life. roommates who love youtube! It will probably be clear later tonight, maybe an hour or two. think you'll still be up then? Shoe expressed interest in playing tonight too, so we've got a couple people.
