The same like 4 or 5 characters win every year. It's not a surprise anymore, or any good battles. It's always going to be someone like Mario, Link, or Cloud, or Sephiroth, or whatever. It makes the contests boring and predictable.
I say we shouldn't allow our typical winners to participate next year.
Nothing is wrong with Mario, or Zelda games, or Final Fantasy 7, it's just that they ALMOST ALWAYS WIN. I think it would be fair to exclude them for one year.

Didn't they do that one year when they were running the Champions tournament as well? Solid Snake won. In the following year Samus won.
Let's be honest, you get rid of Cloud, Mario, and Link, and it just comes down to Samus and Snake. The best way to change it up would be to stop arranging the brackets so the same "top 8" makes it every single year. Link, Mario, Cloud, Sephiroth, Samus, Solid Snake, Mega Man, and sometimes Squall. Same final 8 every single year.

I'll find a way
I fail to see your logic there. He said winners of the contest, not winners of said matches. However you are correct about removing L Block since it did win.
I understand what the OP is talking about. I think it is a great idea to remove the winners each year. Remember back in 2002 when the contests first started, Mario was favored to win the entire thing, but we were all shocked when Link won. That made exciting matches.
Now most everyone puts Link as winner in their bracket. There are little to no surprises in the later matches of the contest.
But that will never happen because anytime somebody suggests it, everyone suddenly gets offended and complains that it would be stupid and gives ridiculous reasons why. However, it is those same people that generally gripe about Link winning.

I think he is refering to the division finals until the end. The matches that are not predictable are the ones with low and mid card charcters.
I am not going to win any prizes but I missed two Round 1 matches where low cards were going against each other. Those matches are not predictable, so quite trying to sound smart.
