I'll be getting Persona 4 The Golden, but I'll be waiting until a 2nd or 3rd model to actually buy a Vita. Hopefully one of those can fix any issues it has.

I'll definitely play Uncharted and Persona at some point. That might mean doing what I did with the PSP (buying it about five years after it was released dirt cheap) if it doesn't look like there's going to be strong continued support for it.

It will take a large library of rpgs and a decrease in price from rip-off status to acceptable for both the portable system and its memory cards before I consider purchasing one.

Yeah, I don't know about that. Persona 4 Golden doesn't seem that different from the original, just made to be portable and a little extra content.

I am still waiting for them to reveal what that "Final Fantasy" game is for the 3DS, and the inevitable redesign. If it's a remake of FF6 it's sold. If not, I can still be convinced to get a Vita instead, though.

but i also haven't gotten my birthday present (my birthday was in september lol) and am willing to contribute a lot of money towards the latter so yeah

Only handheld I've bought in many years is the DS, and it'll probably be the only one for a longa tima.

in 1-2 years into its life, maybe.
you know, long enough for them to 1) revise the system, and 2) have people work the damn thing in ways that piss sony off. this includes hard modding the damn thing to have a removable battery, putting adapters to work micro sd cards, and more.

i guess 3, have it drop to 150 works too.

I might go for a D1 buy, but I think it's more likely I will get it within 6 months, maybe even later towards holiday sales times.

I'm not worried about a new model that makes the original one obsolete. I have a PSP1000 and with firmware updates it's just as capable as a PSP3000, so Vita will probably be the same. Not like Nintendo where the revisions add so much important stuff.

THE reason I want to buy one early, though, is for custom firmware and such. I don't want to get it too late and not be able to hack it... though hacking usually means no PSN, and the PSN stuff looks pretty great, so I might not even want to hack it.

Also foolmo has a very valid point. The difference between PSP upgrades is largely negligible relative to Nintendo upgrades so buying a Sony product earlier isn't really a horrible idea. I still have my PSP-1000!

Probably getting one within 6 months yeah. All about that Uncharted, though I'm in the zfs camp of "a lot of these games look really cool" - I'll certainly get more than Uncharted, even if I wouldn't buy a system for any of them.

Yeah but if it was updated past a certain point you needed a pandora battery or use some other technique that was way harder.

With Vita they can't even do hardware mods like pandora battery, and Sony will probably try to do stuff to block hacking much earlier, so I dunno.

I never did hack my PSP, and that's not really something I'm interested in doing on Vita either. The launch games, or launch window games, are what's selling it to me early on. Uncharted, Escape Plan, Wipeout, LBP, Gravity Rush, Sound Shapes, Little Deviants -- I won't buy all of these at once, but it's a nice stream of games I'll be buying over the course of a few months. Stuff like Persona 4 and FFX HD are nice bonuses, but not really what I would buy a whole new system for.

The only reason I even have a DS to begin with is because I used GameFAQs contest prize money to buy it!
