This is like something you'd see in 2001 as a corrective measure to earlier stringent restrictions created out of naivety due to being new to the internet forum business.

Don't really know what to say about this, the Gamefaqs moderating staff destroyed the community themselves through years of idiotic practice making this site renowned for bad, restrictive moderation. So many social spinoff sites had to spawn from here just to allow people to chat, it was that restrictive. The damage has been done, long ago and I guess they're sweating now that site traffic has gone down the toilet and all but nonetheless its a very reactive move (slow reactive at that) and several years too late for it to save the community.

Site traffic has more to do with the types of games that are popular these days. No longer is everyone scouring the internet to find out how to get through everything in -insert rpg here-. They just want to know about the newest FPS coming out and then they go back to their CoD or whatever. GFAQs isnt really the type of place they are looking for.
