From: metoolfan | #024 Also yep, finally a fair moderation system. Goood.
I'm surprised people like this system more.
I mean, look at the opening paragraph:
Enforcement of the below rules is decided by two groups of people: other users who report the message for review and the team of volunteer moderators who decide if that reported message is a violation of these rules. Both groups have a lot of leeway on deciding if a post is a violation.
Considering people think that the mods are corrupt, I'd think that this would only exacerbate those complaints.
We'll see how it goes.

From: __Smurf__ | #056 Ness, whats your take on the moderator teams impartiality and competence to handle that?
I don't really interact with most of the team, but the ones I have talked to have been looking forward to this change because they wanted the rules to be more lenient.
It's definitely going to be a rough adjustment period. The mods have to get used to the new rules just like the users, so between users pushing the lines and the moderators learning where to draw them... think of it as "new mod season" but the entire staff is a new mod now.

Well Ulti, to be fair to Smurf... his efforts to get people axed were less than half-assed. I mean he really put no effort at all. It's just that a few people either didn't know better or were trusting to the point of borderline idiocy. He'd get on aim and say "Got alt? ¬_¬" and I actually would troll him more than he trolled me because it was fun to make him believe that I was considering giving him an alt... just so that he;d keep pestering me so I would f*** with him more... and f***ing with his Viper Vixen account was fun too.
edit: of course I forgot what I came here to say in the first place. This looks really, really f***ing promising and I hope it works out as well as I want it to. The results should speak for themselves, but even if it doesn't work out well, I still have to give Allen props for effort. Still I'm surprisingly optimistic.

Nothing really changed, at least from how I interpret it. The rules just became a little less wordy. But now it's so vague anything can be moddable just like before >_>
hopefully this works out. I think we need to scrub away all the mods and admins and start fresh, if we really want to scrub away the CJayC-ness of the site.

Donny: Are they gonna hurt us, Walter? Walter: No, Donny. These men are cowards.
And...I'm generally ok with highly discretionary systems for moderators, provided you have a solid bunch of moderators. I admin a forum where the rules are something along the lines of....
1. Don't post anything illegal that would get our hosting revoked (ROMs etc) 2. Don't be a spam bot. 3. Don't be stupid. We're looking for intelligent conversation--what you talk about and what words you use aren't important, but the "intelligent" part is.
Granted, the discretionary system does mean in-practice there's an implicit fourth rule of "Don't openly antagonize every single moderator and admin, especially if your account is 3 days old." But realistically that was true on GameFAQs as well >_>

Somewhat nervous this is going to eventually lead to more pornographic images on gamefaqs, not necessarily of naked people, but of sexier photos and videos.
Other then that I think its great

But the rules as they are still explicitly forbid anything "not safe for work"
Don't post messages designed solely to disrupt the normal flow of posts on a board. A few obvious examples are ALL CAPS, AlTeRnAtInG cApS, posts that force browsers to scroll horizontally or vertically, links to browser traps or glitches, and random ASCII art.
-ASCII art leniency: Before, posting ASCII art in a topic that wasn't specifically flagged as an ASCII art topic resulted in moderation. Now, ASCII art will be allowed in a regular topic as long as the art is of a reasonable size. The art shouldn't force browsers to scroll horizonally and should be of a reasonable height so as not to cause needless vertical scrolling. Abuse of this freedom can quickly lead to its removal, so less is more.
