Buffy is my all time favorite show so I am happy to go into more reasons if you need.

And if you really don't like the High school stuff just watch Seasons 4-6 which take place after they graduate (Season 7 has some more High School stuff but not as much).

I would highly not recommend doing this not only for the obvious reasons, but especially since early S4 is arguably the worst part of the series. You really need investment in the characters at that point.

Yeah that's probably true, though Season 4 has some of the best stand alone episodes. Actually, thinking about it early Season 1 (and really almost all but the first episode and the last few episodes of Season 1) is still much worse than Early Season 4. I'm sometimes amazed Buffy managed to survive that start.

But that wasn't really a suggestion so much as a way of pointing out how much of the show doesn't even take place in High School

First, discussing Maniac's stuff:

I plan on watching Buffy at some point soon, probably as soon as finals are finished and my graduation stuff is finished and I find myself with more free time. I look forward to it, though it'll be a much larger commitment and probably slower moving, especially if you consider that seeing Buffy pretty much means I have to see Angel, too (at least in my opinion). Leverage I've heard little about, but the concept seems interesting. I'm not sure how much I would enjoy Farscape, though if it's as character driven as you say, I think I could enjoy it. I've never had the urge to watch Star Trek or anything like that, so I don't know how much the same kind of environment would appeal to me. It's not something I'd put high on a to-watch list at this point.

I can go along with your reasoning for them going back. It makes sense, and I never really doubted that loyalty was probably the main reason. Mal would probably be easy to risk everything for. I had not, however, ever picked up on Inara not being afraid to die, nor having a suicide kit, nor even potentially be already dying. That is all new to me and I would be interest in hearing how these theories came about and the examples in the show.

You bring up an interesting point about the Kaylee-Simon relationship. It is a very convenient one, but I guess I don't really have a problem with it because it seemed like something that would naturally happen. As in, it didn't feel forced at all. Both characters seemed to have the disposition that would lead them to gravitate towards companionship, and Simon's goof up in Jaynestown and The Message is a good summary of it. However, I felt there was just enough quirks from Simon that it didn't seem like something that was thrown together for people to d'aww over. And I also chalked Kaylee's affection towards Tracy as her having been rejected affection before, and Tracy being a lot more open and loose than Simon, so it was something should would easily be drawn towards. Now of course if I had to rank the things I wanted tied up in the movie, Simon and Kaylee's relationship would be near the bottom, but I still didn't mind. They were cute together.

To answer Bartz, I saw Dr. Horrible's Sing-Along blog, but it wasn't knowing that Joss Whedon wrote it that made me want to watch Firefly. It made me want to see more stuff with Nathan Fillion since I thought he was amazing in the short film, and Firefly was the only immediately accessible thing to me. If Castle ever comes to Netflix, I'll probably start watching it relatively soon after.

Perfectly understandable on the Farscape front. I know people who just can't get into it because it is too sci-fi. If you can though it is an amazing show. Leverage sometimes reminds me a bit of Firefly, what with the crime team main cast and some of the great character interaction being the highlight of the show.

I had not, however, ever picked up on Inara not being afraid to die, nor having a suicide kit, nor even potentially be already dying. That is all new to me and I would be interest in hearing how these theories came about and the examples in the show.

Well earlier in that episode she pulled out her suicide kit. A needle and some liquid that could be used to end it quickly if they were going to freeze/suffocate (I believe she gave it to Simon). Otherwise it is a lot of little things, the biggest of which is in Ariel when she comes back from her exam. When asked how it went she states it was "the same as last time" not good, or fine, but the same as last time (also the way she delivered the line). And if there is something wrong with her that means it is something that isn't going away and she has had for awhile, also it can't be something that would endanger her clients.

There are a suprising number of things like that for Firefly fans to discuss. Book was the big topic of course (before the comic), and River before the movie. Also what happened to Mal's home planet and why he doesn't like to talk about his past so much. I am also of a group that believes the Tam parents knew (or at least had a vague idea) what The Academy really was when they sent River there. No way two parents that smart could be that stupid when it came to Rivers letters and obviously worsening condition, and they were just so strongly against Simon doing anything to find out the truth.

So much potential. It's not fair, really. It'd be nice to see what would've come to be if the writers were given even a full season.

One thing I've noticed is that a lot of the main cast haven't done too much outside of Firefly. Sure, they've all had a couple projects, and most notable are probably Nathan FIllion in Castle and Adam Baldwin in Chuck, and then Summer Glau in the handful of things she was in, but it's been almost ten years since Firefly came out and I had no idea who any of these people were (save Fillion) coming into the series. I don't know, that's just surprising to me. Firefly was so wonderfully acted that I figured it'd have been a jumping point for some actors, but it doesn't seem that was the case. I have to assume they all loved working on the show, since they all came back to make the movie three years later. Was the love so strong that it destroyed their passion after they were given no chance to survive!?

Sure, let's go with that.

Also, that Castle clip is absolutely amazing.

It turns out there are many Firefly references in Castle. Writers fans of the show, or does Fillion get them put in? Either way, that's pretty nifty.

Some of those have to at least be approved of by the writers so I'm going with both. My favorite is Beckett: "You know Chinese?" Castle: "I picked it up from a TV show"

As far as actors go. Jewel Staite continued to work in Sci-fi, becoming a main cast person on Stargate Atlantis and then doing some Syfy movies. Gina has done some movies and is now in Suits. I think she took a little time off at first to be with her husband: Morpheus (yeah, Gina is married to Laurence Fishburne). I can't think of any big roles for the rest of the cast except Tudyk was the voice of the robot in I Robot.

It appears Morena Baccarin was the lead on V as well. And Alan Tudyk was Steve the Pirate in Dodgeball. When I first started watching, I just knew he had a familiar face, I just couldn't put my finger on it. Thank goodness for IMDb.

I'll probably look into getting the comics. If anybody else asks me if I want anything for Christmas, I'll throw those out. I really want River's story fleshed out more, and I really want to know Shepherd Book's past. Those are incentive enough for me. I assume I can just get all three issues in one book, or something. I don't know how comics work.

Alan Tudyk still acts a lot, but not in major films usually. He had a recurring role on Dollhouse, one of Joss Whedon's other projects. I would recommend taking a look at that one; it only lasted 2 seasons and had an interesting premise. It also managed to wrap up most if not all of the plot points.

I knew Tudyk form his hilarious character in A Knights Tale.

And yeah, Those Left Behind, A Shephards Tale, and Better Days are all sold with their full story in one book (one for each not one overall).

No way, the best is when he has his halloween costume (dressed up as Mal) and he tells his daugher he's a space cowboy. She responds that that doesn't make any sense

Alright yes, the costume is the best, by far.

They actually hinted at that in the previews/commercials for that episode, and it was the reason I first watched the show.
