Why the contests keep happening anyway?I mean around 8 of 10 people say they don't care!Do they generate that much traffic for the site?Don't think so.And myself too that I take part in these contests since 2003 I am bored too.I mean the winner is always the same and the top 4 is almost always the same. They should stop happening anyway. The only thing that could save this contest is if Hitler won but I don't think so.

On the surface, maybe. But even I find myself not caring much at all. It's because the winners are always the same. And about Link not winning - see Majora's Mask.

Because that is what people are going to do.

The real question is how many of those voting the last option actually have an account here. I doubt this is going to affect vote totals that much, which is what I'm sure sballin wants.

Oversaturation? It's been a year since the last contest. We had two contests in 2010, and we've had two contests in the same year several times.

It's not a matter of oversaturation. This contest just isn't very interesting.

It's hard to care about video game characters in general. Games are things people care about, and I've enjoyed the games contests that we've had. But characters? When I play a game, as far as I'm concerned *I'm* the main character, not whatever avatar is used on screen.

I'll fill out a bracket for characters since it only takes a minute, but I have a hard time caring about it.

I haven't even looked at the bracket this year because the contest concept is so bad.

I don't really care about the little prize money. Following the contest and guru is more fun anyways, except when the contest sucks ass like it does now.

Last year's contest was amazing and very highly supported because it was just good. How can you go from from that to this just by "oversaturation"? The idea is about as logical as trying to argue with Vlado.

For once, this topic title (that you post every year) is actually accurate.

It's not due to oversaturation though (this is the longest since we've had a contest in some time) but rather due to a poor bracket and negative reaction to the format and the contest itself, not to mention that it's a completely untested idea.

Before now this option has always been 67-70%, and I think it would stay that way if we got a more traditional games/characters contest. Rivalries just aren't what most people want to see, not to mention difficult to predict.

I've always been a big supporter of taking the top 7 characters that always dominate and throwing them into a "finals" bracket, or like previously done, a "champion's bracket". Say everyone in the noble nine but Sonic and Crono.

Then, have a 64 character bracket (containing Sonic and Crono) and whittle it down to one. Let that one go against the champion's bracket contenders in a new bracket of 8.

It'd make the main bracket much harder to predict and we would see tons of matches we never thought we would see. No gimme picks with a noble niner versus fodder.

Which is interesting, considering everyone complains that the contest is to easy to predict. So this format is harder to predict, which makes people not participate?

Yay for a lose-lose situation.

This is now a 10% jump in the "don't give a damn" category compared to last time. Considering that number was already 68%, that's ****ing enormous. You know, it's actually very impressive that a single option can dominate a 5-way poll so badly. This rarely happens and is easily a bigger blowout than we have ever seen in any contest match. I wonder how many polls in GameFAQs history have had singular options this dominant.

There ya go. The most hyped game in site history (at the time, it easily was) versus stuff that would get obliterated by contest fodder. That's what it takes.

Because you need 4, 8 or 16 in the champion's bracket to make it even.

4 is too little, 16 too much. 8 is perfect. 1 contender from a bracket of 64 to compete against the top tier contenders.

Well, I just don't think it's needed or even a very good idea, honestly.

Nobody beyond Link needs to be removed from the main bracket. I would've said Cloud a few years ago, but even now, he looks to be beatable by Mario, Samus, and Snake.

Yes, agreed. But other than that, no one (meaning anyone outside the N9) else has a a chance. Which justifies putting them in a champion's bracket. Cloud would still get his match against characters that could beat him, he just wouldn't get the matches that he would 100% dominate.

I think a bracket that has Squall, Ganon, Bowser, Sora, Kirby, or Yoshi as #1 seeds would be awesome. None of those characters would run into unbeatable road blocks and the bracket would be highly exciting and unpredictable.

It's very easy to create an exciting bracket without removing anyone (other than Link if you want an exciting finale between Cloud and Mario/Samus/Snake).

Yes, someone other than the Noble Nine could win the contest, but that doesn't automatically make it more exciting.

Usual final 8 in any bracket:
Link
Samus
Cloud
Mega Man
Solid Snake
Sonic
Sephiroth
Mario

...Would still happen in my format. And that can be exciting. (honestly who cares who they face before these matches, because they are all buzzsaws to anyone outside the N9)

But you'd also get a final 16 with thee kind of matchups:

Crono
Yoshi

Sonic
Vivi

Squall
Ryu

Alucard
Sub Zero

Bowser
Sora

Charizard
Mega Man X

Dante
Luigi

Ganondorf
Kirby

...Where who the hell knows who will win? And we'd finally get a real tally on how strong some of these characters are. Much more exciting.

There hasn't been a contest that's really interested me in years. Honestly, there's only so much one can do with this sort of thing - there are only so many popular game characters and games, and only so many ways to pit them against each other before you end up with something like the upcoming contest. Character v. character and game v. game were fine, but the results became predictable. Honestly, I don't see this site having another good contest.
