For that matter, I think it's a bit weird to be excited about a new Sonic game that cashes in on 90s nostalgia...while simultaneously shunning a new Mario game that cashes in on 90s nostalgia.

I mean yes, Nintendo can be accused of falling behind in technology and new ideas, so I don't really fault you for not being excited about upcoming Nintendo games. ...But doesn't exactly the same complaint apply to Sonic?

Except it's the opposite: I play great games (when I have the time) and have fun with them, occasionally pointing out how terrible some people's taste in games is with no emotional investment whatsoever.

While my opponents often get mad and start insulting me for no good reason, provoking nothing but a bit of concern for them in me. This actually also applies to your post, more or less.

If I wanted to bother, I would've made a similar comic to illustrate. Would've been quite glorious. :P

I would be interested in a ranking for the games in the poll, as far as how Vlado Approved they are.

1.) MGS HD Collection
2.) Super Mario 3D Land
3.) Uncharted 3
4.) Skyward Sword
5.) Assassin's Creed: Revelations
6.) Saints Row the 3rd
7.) Halo CE HD
8.) CoD MW3
9.) Sonic Generations
10.) Skyrim
11.) Ultimate MvC3
12.) LotR: War in the North (I've never even heard of this game, in all likelihood if I did it would be at least one spot higher)

War in the North is probably gonna be the best game on that whole list. Snowblind and their epic co-op, it's only a shame it doesn't have a Diablo perspective. Will probably seal the deal on being the best LotR game ever as well.

There are very few things in gaming more satisfying for me personally than Mario platforming, 2D, 3D, console, handheld, doesn't matter, it's always fun. They haven't let me down yet.

MGS just happens to be one of those few things.

It's good platforming series, per se, but Mario is really old. There have been tens of games in the series and the peak was reached a long, long time ago. Since then, it's cash-in after cash-in on the popularity of the character (not saying they're not good games, but it's time for a change).

Stuff like Ratchet & Clank and LittleBigPlanet (regardless of whether you wanna call them "platformers"), Klonoa, Jak and Sly (if we talk PS1/PS2 games) is way fresher, and their quality is in no way inferior to Mario's.
