I would just like to take this opportunity to say that I never rigged a contest in the MPFC, back when I ran it, and that anyone who thinks otherwise is simply wrong. I wish I had evidence to back myself up beyond my word, but I do not. It may be true that I was an awful host, I decline to comment on that, but I was not a corrupt one. I am aware that the people who read these reviews and the people who vote in MPFC don't overlap at all (except maybe TRE), but I'm going to say it anyway. Speaking of anyway,

Hey! I vote in MPFC and read these topics, I just hardcore lurk most of the time! I've only been around for this one, but I have to say that the fact that people hold grudges over something so silly like these contests is pretty ridiculous. But yeah, keep up the good work man, and don't bother trying to justify yourself to people who refuse to let something so trivial go.
Shouldn't that last one be GARAMAN or something like that? Take the time to occasionally live up to your name!

I think by that point Ash had also used Meowth, Weezing, and Arbok (not Jessie and James' pokemon mind you). And if we're being really damn picky, Ponyta/Rapidash.

I only counted things that Ash had owned. He just borrowed those pokemon for a test. He "owned" Larvitar and Haunter more than those other pokemon.

I've been catching up with the B/W episodes, and the Purrloin episode got a legitimately good laugh from me at the end there. Oh Pokemon anime, you so silly...

The Battle Subway 2-parter was kind of a let down. It kinda made me feel like maybe it's not such a bad thing that they never aired the Rocket vs. Plasma special.

But the Subway arc had nothing to do with Team Plasma, it was just another Team Rocket thing. I wanted more fighting... sigh...

I say that because I feel like the Rocket vs. Plasma episodes would just end up being disappointing, like these ones were.

Even IF the episodes were disappointing at least they would've wrapped up alot of the stuff they hyped us up for. What the hell happened with that meteorite that Team Rocket stole, and why was it so important?
I don't think I'll do another episode tonight, but I should be able to do one tomorrow night. I'll have free time over the weekend now that midterm season is over.

The last season of Battle Frontier is already on Megaupload. The beginning of DP is not, as I generally upload episodes as seasons, not by themselves. If you want, I can upload what I have so far, otherwise, you'd have to wait until I finish season ten and the new topic begins.

A Staravia Is Born! "Get ready for big wins!" Score: 3/10
While teaching Starly aerial ace in a forest, the heroes run into Rosemay (not Rosemary), a woman whose personality is Britsh, and Brock reacts as you expect.
Rosemay "observes and keeps track of the numerous pokemon living here in the forest," but laments that the number of the bird pokemon has sharply decreased recently and shes at a loss to explain how. This sounds like a job for a group of unskilled teenagers who, with the help of the pet/mascot of the group, travel around solving mysteries and helping innocent people from incompetent villains!
Ash sends Starly to search the forest, because whatevers happening to the bird pokemon surely wont happen to his bird pokemon. Ten seconds later, Starly is caught in a Team Rocket net.
Well, let me summarize the rest of the episode for you: Team Rocket! Twerps Thunderbolt! Our giant robot is electricity-proof! Starly is evolving! Blasting off again!
Im not even being unfair to this episode.

Well you did kind of miss the part where Starly commanded a Noctowl or Hoothoot to hypnotize Meowth into setting the bird pokes free. That was pretty different. Usually Ash's normal/flying types are mindless and devoid of personality so seeing Starly not only devise a plan but also take a leadership role without being Ash's Pikachu is kind of a big deal.

I thought about mentioning that, but if I did that, I would have to mention how Hoothoot was capable of mind controlling Meowth the entire time and needed Starly, who presumably isn't even familiar with what Hoothoot are capable of, to tell it what to do. I thought this was better.

Leave It To Brocko! "Money isn't everything, especially when you're rich." Score: 5/10
I swear to God, the CGI in this show is so atrocious, I don't know why they keep rendering things with it.
On one side of a mountain is a pokemon center the heroes are at. On the other side is a tribe of Nuzleaf, Seedot, and Shiftry. One of the Nuzleaf is, in its sleep, accidentally carried by a Vileplume over the mountain without waking up. When it finally does, it has no idea where it is.
Nurse Joy finds it, but it won't accept her help. The heroes show up, so Brock crouches to be at eye-level and puts his hands behind his back to show that he means no harm, a technique that you would assume a nurse would already know. He then introduces it to Bonsly until it trusts him. I mean right? Thats something that she would logically already know, right?
Nurse Joy explains that the only Nuzleaf nearby are on the other side of a mountain, where they live by the dozens. The heroes offer to take it with them, as they're going over the mountain to reach Oreburgh City anyway.
Team Rocket, hoping to capture Nuzleaf, dresses Meowth up as a Shiftry, and has him tell Nuzleaf to come over. The heroes do realize the deception, but not because Meowth is a third the size of a Shiftry and Nuzleaf would presumably be able to tell the difference between a real Shiftry and a fake. No, it's because Dawn scans Meowth with her pokedex and exposes it. Team Rocket captures Bonsly, Nuzleaf, and Brock (by accident) in a net and escape in a balloon. For once, Ash does remember his Staravia, but Seviper uses haze to cover their escape.
Team Rocket stops for lunch, and Brock tells them that they can't take Nuzleaf away from its friends, even though pokemon trainers do that all the time and in fact the heroes have done it. Brock offers to cook lunch for Team Rocket, and while they eat, he escapes with the cage the pokemon are in instead of escaping with the cage and throwing out Croagunk in case Team Rocket sees him. Once theyre away, Brock has Bonsly double-edge the cage to let them escape, and when it succeeds, it evolves. Aw, Sudowoodo sucks. It's worse than Jynx. And its probably going to be in Brocks line-up the entirety of DP, huh? Damn.
Team Rocket catches up, so its now Croagunk versus Seviper. They have an entertaining fight in which Croagunk basically just lets Seviper hit it while it uses brick break over and over. Ultimately, both pokemon are knocked out.
James sends out Carnivine, so Sudowoodo is up. The other heroes show up, but Brock refuses to let them help, since this is Sudowoodos first battle. Sudowoodo gets hit like five hundred times, and continually uses double-edge, so you would think it would go down, but no, it wins.
Team Rocket sends out Cacnea and Dustox, but a Shiftry (with a Russian accent) shows up. It decides the episode doesn't have enough time for another fight, so it uses razor wind and blasts Team Rocket off. The heroes congratulate Sudowoodo on its evolution and new strength, and Nuzleaf returns to its tribe.
Honestly, I really like Croagunk. Its battle is the episode, as far as Im concerned.

Whoa. I'm with mnk. I thought James had released his Cacnea or gave it to... whoever before he got Carnivine. What the heck was he doing with TWO gimmicky grass types??? When he sent them out at the same time did Cacnea hug him while Carny bit him simultaneously?

He sent them out one after the other, so he first got hugged on the head and then the neck. He rarely uses Cacnea now, which is a shame, because its voice is less annoying than Carnivine's.

I really hope Jessie and James catch new Pokemon soon. It's fairly rare that they even battle anymore, but when they do, their battles are pretty much nothing but "Woobat, Air Slash!" and "Yamask, Shadow Ball!". If we're lucky, maybe Yamask will use Night Shade.

I don't know about Team Rocket in BW, but that's generally how it works with them so far. They're there to lose, so aside from the rare occasion where Seviper remembers it can use haze and wrap, it ineffectually uses poison tail until it's time to blast off.

I guess maybe it's made worse because they aren't in every episode anymore, and for the most part they're portrayed as competent, but naturally they can't actually beat the heroes. It just makes it seem worse.

Shapes Of Things To Come! You just use whatever move is best for the moment!" Score: 6.5/10
I love how thats said, as if its not the most logical and obvious way to battle.
The heroes reach Oreburgh City, where they bump into Paul, whos waiting for Roark, the gym leader, to return from a coalmine (his second job) and take challengers.
The heroes go to the coalmine in time to see Roark remove a Rampardos fossil. He starts rubbing the fossil, saying that he can hear what it's saying and will one day come back to life. No one thinks this is weird. Roark explains that every so often, a fossil is uncovered in the mine, and that theres a machine that can bring them back to life. The main characters treat this is as new information even though theyve heard of such machines before.
Everyone returns to the gym, and since Paul was first, Dawn asks if she can watch his battle, and he responds that he "couldn't care less." This angers Ash and Pikachu because... Oooooooh that Paul!
Roark sends out a Geodude, and Paul counters with Azumarill. Despite taking into account type advantages, Azumarill loses easily because Geodude's strategy is much better. Paul sends out Elekid, whose brick break OHKOs Geodude.
Roark sends out Onix. It uses stealth rock, and the show takes like thirty seconds to carefully explain how stealth rocks works. Elekid does well enough, but it takes so much damage that it can barely even stand, so Paul withdraws it. Ash criticizes the decision as Paul not caring whether his next pokemon gets hurt or not by the stealth rock, but hell, what is he supposed to do? Elekid is already all but down, so Paul will have to throw out a third pokemon eventually anyway, so there's no way around the stealth rock. Additionally, Ash of all people has no right to criticize this, given that he once sacrificed three pokemon to Drake's Dragonite to weaken it enough for Pikachu to finish it off. And if youre concerned with stealth rock hurting pokemon, maybe you should criticize the person who used it. Well, anyway, despite the stealth rock, Pauls third pokemon, Chimchar, downs Onix with little trouble.
Roark sends out his final pokemon: Cranidos. Its zen headbutt tosses Chimchar around like it's nothing, but its blaze eventually activates. Its sped-up flame wheels are enough to damage its knees, lowering its speed and thus its attacks, but Cranidos still comes out on top. Elekid is sent back out, and after a long battle, it triumphs and Cranidos goes down, and Roark rewards Paul with a badge.
Seeing Pauls battle style (instead of Ashs) is a nice change. I dont think wed ever seen anyone except Ash ever fight a gym leader before, except for the time Gary battles Jessie when shes in charge of the Viridian Gym, and that was really just showing off Garys pokemon rather than Garys moves. Still, Ashs ridiculous criticisms of Paul are just annoying and usually dont make sense. I know were supposed to sympathize with Ash, but hes so hostile to Paul without any reason to be. Add to that that Paul is utterly unsympathetic himself, and you have an episode where I cant hope anyone does well.
So its more-or-less every episode, really.
