Not that I'm saying a religious person can't respond...

So let's say something happened somehow that made it undeniable that God doesn't exist, and that everyone accepted it. What do you think would happen? That is, how do you think the world would change?

The super-religious violent fundamentalist types would go bat**** insane and try to destroy the world or something

once they're stopped, life goes on as normal for the most part

An initial surge of violence and war followed by a curtailing and more people chilling the hell out. Net effect on the first generation or two: highly negative. Net effect on subsequent generations and the overall future of the species: positive.

atheism towards that particular god would be virtually eliminated. though, i question how a thing could be undeniable when we lack complete knowledge regarding the universe. even the best data we have is constantly recombed when new ideas and theories and experiments cast new lights on how things might be.

will atheism be eliminated though? no. most people are atheist towards most gods except the ones they may or may not believe in.

The fact that something happens in your mind doesn't mean that it's not real. Plenty of people have already received "undeniable" proof of higher intelligence.

Just tryin to be deep, bro.

But if undeniable proof meant the big dude in the sky showing his face, or Jesus coming back to Earth, I'd be scared as ****. That guy is kind of an *******, and there is no way I'm going to start listening to him now, if I've always thought his rules were bs.

The idea is pretty much impossible in itself, but we'll humour it since it's a hypothetical.

I think there would be something of a void for a long time. Eventually things would mellow out though and, as yo said, I think the overall net effect would be positive.

Because it's ridiculous and almost impossible. If you want a viable answer or an interesting discussion don't ask questions that are on the same level as 'what if Santa would come in your house right now and kill your own flesh and blood' on the internet

come to think of it, that's actually a pretty cool question.

Do you mean if some being came to this Earth and performed miracles and started preaching that he could save us from the eternal damnation of death?

If he claimed that we could ascend after death if we followed his rules?

And we believe him because he can cure our diseases and arise again after we kill him? And this being even "looks" human?

...If this actually happened, I would follow that man. But, unless he literally looked like a human, I would constantly think he was some sort of alien with extraordinary powers.

I'm agnostic though, not atheist. I know there's higher beings out there. Humans aren't at the top of the cosmic food chain.

Ya, I suppose so. If he can part the Red Sea with his bow staff, I guess shape shifting or charming isn't out of the question.

It'd be amazing to find a being that can defy physics (well physics defined by humans of Earth). I would have to follow him. And rest be assured I would ask him as much as I could about space and the other realms he protects.

Still sounds like a fantasy to me though.

The chances of an alien "profit" coming here to do us good and lead us to become "space industrialized" are slim.

If an alien comes here I gotta believe it will be to extinguish or capture us.

But that's a very humanistic way of thinking. Because that's what we'd do if we found a less fortunate planet than us that was suitable for habitation. Kind of like the Europeans going to Africa, or the Europeans going to the Americas.

"Suitable land? And you can't defend against us coming here? Well then, we'll take it! Or...err, we'll "share" it with you to appease the hippies back on planet Earth. And as reparation we'll teach you a bunch of cool crap along the way. Watch out for our nasty diseases btw."

I just can't imagine aliens wanting anything to do with us. I mean look at the age of the earth and the direction we're moving in. People are just starting to really care about the damage we're doing to our planet and the way we're treating other living beings. I'm talking about animal rights foundations and all that. Now looking at the age of the Universe, I don't think it's implausible to say that there could be a civilization a somewhere that is thousands of years older than us. I don't think it's a stretch to say they might be millions of years older than us. At that stage of evolution, I feel our race and anything on our planet would be completely insignificant.

The stories are always about aliens coming here and wanting our "resources", what would an advanced race need trees or oil for? It seems far more likely that they'd either be harnessing the power of stars or that energy consumption would not be an issue for them (some form of renewable energy we can't comprehend I suppose). Same deal with using our planet to live on... seems like they would be able to build artificial planets before they decided to jack ours.

I know it still sounds like crazy talk to most people. But I'm honestly starting to believe the theory that we've already been visited. I think any intelligent life that didn't originate on this planet would be capable of observing us without being detected. I have absolutely no belief in this UFO stuff, but I don't think it's the least bit preposterous to believe that aliens have been on this planet. Maybe they even created us...

Alot of people would lose their entire belief system, depression diagnoses would sky rocket and suicide rates even more so... But eventually it would mellow out again and most likely you'll end up with a considerable amount of people who still believed whatever they wanted to believe cause you know, it's not really about what's right and factual, it's about what feels right. It's like superstition, it's a comfort for people that need comfort.
