I believe the board response was something like

"FFX HD HYPE"

and

"man it sure is crappy that they took out PS2 emulation so they could put it back in to sell you stuff, but PS2 downloadable games is nice anyway"

This was my favorite part. If you're awesome like me and you still have a PS2, or a PS3 that's backward compatible with a surplus of games, then you don't have to worry.

It's kind of disheartening that this is the generation of remakes and ports. It's not just limited to the game industry though, movies are being given the same treatment. Lots of dumb people willing to buy the same product multiple times, which only further encourages this garbage.

FFX HD is kinda cool, but iirc the PS2 titles are the same as the original versions, just without actually having the disc.. so whats the point

The PS2 titles are awesome because they actually put out games that are hard to find at reasonable prices.

Well FFX was the main reason I still played my PS2. I bought the God of War games for it but I bought the HD versions of those too so there really isnt anything left on PS2.

Well, I got God Hand a while back.

I still don't even know what's going on at all and it is glorious

You know, back when they announced they were removing the PS2 emulation, my friend insisted that they were removing it so that they could sell it back to customers later, and I was like "Nah, it's probably just cheaper to make PS3s this way."

Well boy do I have egg on my face now. Though frankly I've had a backwards compatible PS3 for years and still haven't disconnected my PS2. The emulation isn't perfect, and my PS2 is a slim so it's not exactly taking up much space, so I just don't see why I should pack it away.

Thing is, they're also selling PS3 games on PSN. A lot of people simply prefer downloading games. I still don't believe the main reason behind removing backwards compatibility was so they could resell you games, or they'd have started doing this a long while back.

Frankly, I like them selling PS2 games as downloads because I already have too f***ing many games, and this allows me to buy games I don't own without having to get a second huge box to hold my PS2 games in >__>

if i want to play PS2 games on a machine, i can do that already with a PS2, a BC PS3, or a decent computer. have no intention to double dipping with that in mind. >_>;

I don't think it was a planned "let's take out emulation so we can one day resell the games." Probably more like "let's take out emulation cuz it's not that compatible anyway and it's just a headache. also, let's get to work on a better emulator. hey, we made one! rather then give everyone BC back, let's use this to make more money instead."

back when they announced that a new PS2 emulator was in the works by Sony, I believe they had already taken BC out. probably wasn't so blatant and dastardly.

Well you guys can enjoy your buggy emulators and sub-HD FFX. I'll gladly pay full price again for such a masterpiece in HD.

But look at games like God Hand, which goes for $20 used on Amazon and costs $10 on PSN. Odin Sphere's better, but still costs around $12 plus shipping compared to PSN's $10 and ability to play it instantly.

i own God Hand and Odin's Sphere.
not a problem on either one! my PS2 collection is pretty top tier. and half the devs on some of those wouldn't get a cent out of it - if you buy god hand you sure as hell ain't paying clover anymore.

Well not everyone owns all the games that are going for sale on PSN! This is a sale targetted towards people who don't own the games they're buying >_>

Not to mention you could sell your copy of God Hand, buy the PSN version, and make a profit if you wanted!

well yeah, i can sell it, but where's the fun in that. ownership value man.
but i have a different standard than most on sales there. if the developer will get money out of it, i'll gladly buy. if they won't, i go for whatever's the cheapest way i can get the game because who cares.
